Thus it should be a law that no one ought to be able to force another to wear them. This would give women the freedom of choice.

Sharia is what is followed by the Muslim men being discussed.

Without a direct law, they will continue to force women while denying that they do so and they will win as there is no way a court can show force unless the woman co-operates and if she does, she will likely lose all that she hold dear.

Your solution is not a workable one. My way the family is more likely to stay together and learn to give each other equality.

In my brief search i did not find the actual verse from the Koran that i read, when i happened to open a fellow employees Koran on her bookmarked page. But this will do:-

Quran (47:3-4) - "Those who disbelieve follow falsehood, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord... So, when you meet (in fight Jihad in Allah's Cause), those who disbelieve smite at their necks till when you have killed and wounded many of them, then bind a bond firmly (on them, i.e. take them as captives)... If it had been Allah's Will, He Himself could certainly have punished them (without you). But (He lets you fight), in order to test you, some with others. But those who are killed in the Way of Allah, He will never let their deeds be lost." Those who reject Allah are to be killed in Jihad. The wounded are to be held captive for ransom. The only reason Allah doesn't do the dirty work himself is to to test the faithfulness of Muslims. Those who kill pass the test.

I cannot seem to find the verse regarding smiting those that do not convert from the Earth - and i don't believe it was in relation to battle, but in general. The girl from work whose Koran i opened on the bookmarked page was Sunni not Shia - perhaps there are separate verses for each denomination.
In any case my position remains resolute, i'm sure there are plenty of translations that perhaps are misinterpreted by believers but at the end of the day, plenty of Muslims believe these translations. (as we are witnessing)
