I liked your efforts, some years ago, to persuade people not to put a person on the "ignore" list. It was Typist and me at the time who did put someone on such a list.

I did not oblige right away but I registered your peace-promoting activity. An effort of peace talks.

You sound like the type of person who would enjoy reading or writing.

Am I close?

Yes, you are close.

Because I most enjoy listening.
At the moment it is "Imperium" by Robert Harris.
When I compare myself to Cicero and what he had to risk I feel ashamed of being such a coward.

When Verres sent his people to search Cicero´s house they were furious because they could not find the person who they were looking for. They wanted to search Cicero´s wife´s rooms too and Cicero warned them: I would not do that. (the actor pronounced it very well)
Torrentia scratched the soldiers and threw them out.

It is good to listen to a story about times long past.

Well, the original poster left this thread long ago.

Matter of fact, I think she has left the forum.

So, things may have wandered a bit.

We're still on the virgin theme though....Least I am. Always in my head.

Matter of opinion and a classic example of your 'intuition' at work once again.

So no, he has not left and appears, unlike you, to be interested in discussing things philosophically.
So, things may have wandered a bit.

Never a truer word said.

Well the original poster has not left but is standing to one side watching the "philosophers" bitch and scratch and lose the plot (as well as the thread). I had just come to the conclusion that it was testosterone fuelled when the comment "...she has left the room" convinced me I was right. There are male as well as female virgins and if anybody was even the slightest bit interested and actually looked at the name of the newby who was looking for guidance in this new field they would have come to the conclusion that not many females are called Richard. Then again.....

So thanks for the introduction to philosophy. I have learnt a great deal ( I mean that) and am looking forward to more debates with philosophers on philosophy in the future.

By the way, I do like the use of images as well as words to get the message across. People have preferences in communication towards auditory, kinaesthetic and visual. Personally I am in the visual category. Using all three when communicating will touch (kinaesthetic) or be heard by (sound) or seen (visual) by more people than using only one.

Note to self "Should have taken up fishing"

A touch of NLP?

Don't forget the books.

Have you decided which ones to start with?

Yes. Sorry about that.

There are some to be found here.
richardtod wrote:By the way, I do like the use of images as well as words to get the message across.

I have nothing against images if they actually illuminate the debate, but dumping self-congratulatory gifs on every bloody post is a nuisance. Perhaps I should be more philosophical, but as I have no idea what Bilwiltrak is trying to say, apart from 'Technology is amazing,' I think he may have exhausted his potential to use them informatively.

Take a copy of Plato's Republic, in many ways it's a horrible book, but it helps explain a lot of the subsequent two and a half thousand years.

We are less than shadows here, we do not really know each other.
We take in an impression and build a whole vision of a person upon it, but this vision is an illusion, crashed easily by the next impression.
Now that is true wisdom.

I often think that myself, but you expressed it far more aptly than I could.

Where are all these gems coming from? I could listen to you all day. Please, contribute more often.
