Well, it's not at all superfluous and it's not about semantics.
Either "The world is better today than it was 10000 years ago" is a fact or it isn't.
If most humans familiar with history agree - what else is there to say about it?

When it comes to Global Warming a false negative is worse than a false positive.
If you don't believe it and it poses systemic risk to human existence - we'll force you to believe it. At gunpoint if we have to.
