Well, it's not at all superfluous and it's not about semantics.

Either "The world is better today than it was 10000 years ago" is a fact or it isn't.

If most humans familiar with history agree - what else is there to say about it?

if consensus made fact, global warming would be undisputed and the bodies of drowned polar bears would create speed bumps for surfers everywhere...

What a stupid thing to say. What does disputation have to do with factuality?
When it comes to Global Warming a false negative is worse than a false positive.

If you don't believe it and it poses systemic risk to human existence - we'll force you to believe it. At gunpoint if we have to.
