Indeed! I was thinking the same thing...and you said it perfectly. I admit, there's always a hope (for me) of saying something that might spark some recognition for another person of their OWN broader awareness -- because I really do think all of us can broaden the "channels" we transmit and receive on -- and that changes everything. But perhaps when a person's identity is wrapped up in specific ideas, and they're getting some sort of ego payoff (or emotional comfort), they will defend that illusion of identity with blind ferocity.

I would be concerned to hear a Muslim speak of westerners the way Walker speaks of "Leftists". With the rapid rise of right wing extremist terrorism, what I am hearing from Walker is a concern. Increasingly there will be "direct action" groups ready to exploit vulnerable people like Walker who are too consumed with hatred to think clearly and thus be capable of protecting themselves from manipulations by violent hate groups.

Last century I used to enjoy eating at a Lebanese restaurant. The proprietors were awesome - friendly, funny, smart, switched on. After 9/11 things changed. The vibe was no longer fun and I didn't go there for about six months. The next time I turned up the usually-busy place now only had a few customers. The bright, upbeat vibe was now dull and heavy. There was the wife at the back in full cover, aside from face, like a nun, scowling. She was a real hoot before, fast, perceptive and a quick wit. Her husband, the once jolly joker, seriously attended my food order. We didn't talk much. I didn't go back again and I guess neither did many other former regulars because the place shut down.

I have a similar sinking feeling here, watching a once-vibrant soul unravel itself for the sake of a stale ideology that ultimately doesn't give the slightest shit about them - and they give their all for it.

It is why I love being a mirror to hypocrites (a.k.a humans).

Because:
1. I get to show people that they DO the exact same thing they clam to hate in others.
2. I can take the anger/abuse/violence that tends to follow the cognitive dissonance.

3. Do you recognize that one can be a "Rightie" (libertarian) on federal-scale politics and a "Leftie" (communist) at family-scale politics?

Now you are asking us to state WHY something was put in place? As if the INTENDED purpose of the electoral college has any bearing whatsoever on its ACTUAL function now that it's part of the system. It does what it does. It has pros and cons. Effects and side-effects.
