if you want peace, prepare for war.
If you want war, prepare for the peace of isolationism, e.g., pre-WWII.

What it does is succinctly state what happened, and what is happening.

Since China has prepared a war council, does China want peace?

Fuck. Let China have Taiwan. It's not worth going to WWIII over. Nothing is. Preparing for war just makes countries cocky and think they can win one. Take away the military pacifier and countries will have to rely on diplomacy and world favor. Militarism has only destroyed the credibility of the US. Let China destroy its credibility next. Let them assume the position of the world's biggest asshole. Maybe they'll get fucked by International opinion in return.

.

This appears to be an older post........a few years. Maybe it can be resurrected.

It is difficult for me to whittle my likable quotes down to one. But there is one I think of often and it goes like this... "Nothing is, until you make it so."

He's certainly not Mark Twain but he signs his name off, so he must be important.

Good morning my friend accelafine.

What does "Nothing is, until you make it so." mean?

This is what it means to me.... everything outside of you are "events".

When you perceive an event, you (we all of course) give it a value.

For example.:
Say you get into an accident (and you/everyone are fine) and your car is damaged beyond repair. Of course, when the accident happens, you likely would get all mad.

You get a new car, and it is the BEST car EVER! You love it!!

Then you think.......that accident turned out to be a good thing.

Please understand the concept. Not the car accident per se. But the concept here.

The Buddhists have a story regarding this matter called "Maybe. (I think that is what they call it.)

Here, I will type it up for you below.

A farmers horse gets out of the corral and runs off.

The neighbors come by and say, "Too bad. Such awful luck."

The farmer says, "Maybe.".

The next day, the horse returns with a few other horses. The neighbors congratulates the farmer on his reversal of fortune.

The farmer says, "Maybe.".

When his son tries to ride one of the new horses, he breaks his leg in the neighbors offer their condolences.

"Maybe," the farmer says.

The next day, Army officials come by to draft his son into the Army and do not take the sun because he has a broken leg.

In essence my friend, nothing is good or bad until you assign it a value.

There is already a saying that covers that: 'Every cloud has a silver lining'.
