Why fools? I don't see humanity as having a choice in all this. It's impossible to coordinate seven billion humans with competing interests so whatever discipline is attained by one society will be exploited by another. We have broadly developed about the only way we could develop under the circumstances. It's not as though humanity emerged with a user manual.ForCruxSake wrote:Nice one. Because what they are doing will ultimately bring about their demise. The fact that you and I can discuss this, and this still somehow happen, is incredulous. Man knows what can happen. It's 'The Man' who will let it happen.Greta wrote:Why fools? I don't see humanity as having a choice in all this. (Somehow that last sentence makes me feel I'm talking from a 1970's blaxploitation movie perspective.
Now it's going to be a challenge to keep the movie theme going...

Competing--yes, but there may also be a common interest to reclaim a degree of autonomy from the robots. I wonder how the competing interests will play against the common one. What about human ethics in the face of all this, and what about an ethical code, if any, for the sentient, self-reproducing machines? Would they create one or would they coopt human morality?Greta wrote:Why fools? I don't see humanity as having a choice in all this. (Is this where our discussion becomes more philosophic in nature?).

PC is gag worthy.
This woman politician says that diversity is the military’s greatest strength.
http://canadafreepress.com/article/oh-t ... greatest-s
Without checking, odds are pretty good that she also says global warming is the greatest threat.
Or whatever they call it these days.
Funny how all the beliefs are pre-packaged and predictable.
- Like, if a PC'er separates one of them out, the whole edifice might crumble.
The block of pre-packaged PC beliefs allows for no diversity of thought.

No bonkers because you think she's a communist.
She was a republican apparently and now she's a democrat and neither are anything near being a communist.
You are such a strange bunch tearing yourselves apart when you're all right-wing free-market capitalists(apart from the trumpette I guess), still I the most vicious rows can be between family.

Idiot. Global warming has nothing to do with PC. It's scientific fact.Walker wrote:PC is gag worthy.

Re: What makes you puke?
There is no "letting". It is all completely unavoidable. Even if humans did everything "right" we might have maybe delayed our current strife by a little but in the end we'd still reach this point. Once a species becomes so dominant there is no other possibility than the one that is manifesting. Intelligence means nothing in this context due to tragedies of the commons.ForCruxSake wrote:Because what they are doing will ultimately bring about their demise. Those who are driving the change are not fools. They know that billions of poor people are in danger this century, but poor people are not their concern.
Re: What makes you puke?
It does in the White House where one is not permitted to mention the term "climate change" on US government websites. It's easy to imagine the massive faux pas it would be to use the term in many Republican circles.vegetariantaxidermy wrote:Global warming has nothing to do with PC.

Re: What makes you puke?
Yes. I have noticed that Australia is fast catching up with the US in basic cretinism. They are deliberately denying it because they want to continue to pillage the planet and suck its resources-- and stuff the consequences. They know it's happening. Just as religious top brass know evolution is true. There's a lot of money to be made lying to idiots. I don't see how political correctness fits in though, but then Americans have a huge problem understanding the most basic terms. Look at Henry insisting everyone he disagrees with is a 'communist'.Greta wrote:It does in the White House where one is not permitted to use the "CC term" on US government websites. Australian federal government websites are similarly worried about the "offensive term" and actively work to quash its use.vegetariantaxidermy wrote:Global warming has nothing to do with PC.
