Yeah awesome album all round SoB.
Have you ever heard Quensrÿche's: Operation Mindcrime, it's from a power rock band, I saw them live in London: first concert I ever saw interestingly enough: they were amazing live, pity they split up but I would imagine they would be right up your alley? Got a signed album, my mother threw it away I nearly killed her!

I should probably explain the above: it's basically a concept album in fifteen parts, where they explain how a cult rises in the US, based on dissatisfaction of the US government. The antihero is brainwashed into following the cult and becomes a killer for the cause (a terrorist basically) killing in the name of, usually government officials; the cause known only as Operation: Mindcrime run by Dr X, an underground revolution that promises all sorts of things to those who adhere to the "faith" it's a new religion to those who follow it, but really the organisation is just a drug cartel and little more. He eventually gets lost in his own brain washed beliefs, and ends up doing such unconscionable things that he rebels, at which point he leaves the order, and wakes up in a mental asylum and so we are back at the first track where he wakes up, it's an endless cycle of madness.
I liked it, but I am sure many wont. It's quite depressing. It's one of those books and literature things that you get to when you are young, that make you realise government is not all it's cracked up to be. At the same time I remember I was quite enamoured of the US system, whilst this didn't exactly devolve me from that it certainly made me look at political systems in a different light...:S
Prog rock like it should be, telling it.

I'm as I said a bit of a musical diletente, I was raised on The Beatles, The Who, Blues and well everything really, my first love though was rock, and later I got into certain pop so with that in mind this is my favourite pop song like ever ok. Like it's so cool like.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic
Like it just makes me laugh like you know...
I also love two tone, I was born in the 70s, those who don't know what two tone is shame on you it is a Jamaican style of music that birthed bands like The Specials and led to a whole genre of music but I digress:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WhhSBgd3KI
Very apt to our current times, although it was written when Labour were basically raping the country with socialism, then came Thatcher and it topped the charts again in 1985 not surprisingly dumb Conservative witch.
It was about their home town that was basically losing all its people to the big cities because of the odd socialist agenda of the early 1970s.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkW9UJn2Zgs
"Why must de yoot fight amongst demself?"
Madness another example of two tone although a little more mainstream. "This is the heavy heavy sound!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkW9UJn2Zgs
"Vote labour if you want a n***** for a neighbour."
The swear filter has filtered that word out but I am sure you can guess it is a form of the word black. :S
Can you believe parties got away with that shit?

It did leave the whole political landscape open to some very funny satire but meh...

I own one Quensrÿche disc, the one with "Silent Lucidity" and "Jet City Woman," I believe was the title, another track also got some air play here, and was pretty good as well. But SL was my fave! I've heard that "Operation Mindcrime" was a really good one, and was thinking about picking a copy up, just haven't gotten around to it yet. But "I am" a Prog Rocker at heart and prefer "Dream Theater," and "Porcupine Tree" over "Quensrÿche" and Soundgarden. A bit harder I know, but definitely more Progressive.
Here's a short list that's not all inclusive:
Yes
Rush
E.L.P.
Genesis
King Crimson
Jethro Tull
Pink Floyd
Styx
Journey (first 3)
Kansas
The Moody Blues
Uriah Heep
Utopia
E.L.O.
Gentle Giant
Ambrosia
Marillion
Porcupine Tree
Dream Theater
Nektar
Focus
Camel
Pendragon
Queen
Supertramp
The Dixie Dregs
The Flower Kings
Glasshammer
Liquid Tension Experiment
IQ
Transatlantic
Now that stuff ROCKS!!!!!
When I attended University, I walked from class to class listing to my own mix where these two were my faves:

Wow that little bit sounds like it's right up my ally. I shall check it out complete. I listened to the intro and it sounded very promising, indeed. I'll let you know how it went.

Well as I say it's set in modern times, a man who is a drug addict is duped into becoming a hit man for a cause, the cause is not fully explained but it seems eliminating corrupt political figures is what it is about, although really it's just a front from a criminal overlord to market his brand of brainwashing and of course as with all so called cults make a bit of money out of the corruption, it's as most cults are all very hypocritical they market their cause on a revolution against corrupt officials and politicians but as with all cults it's a lot more seedy as you move up the chain of command: soldier for a cause, terrorists, they were as interchangeable as terms in the 1980s but the album is perhaps even more relevant now than it was then.
He wakes up in a mental asylum and then recounts the story of the last few years from his hazy recollection and drug addled brain washed, sense of the facts.

I love this song, I love the film Midnight Cowboy too because it's themes of friendship are touching right to the end. And when I felt like everyone was talking at me in the past, that's exactly how I felt. At the risk of sounding somewhat odd though, the lyrics are very moving I think.
My favourite song of all time, well it's at least one I never left...

A nice song I kinda like but then being a massive Tolkien Nerd I would:
I do see fire, it burns my precious.

From the Desolation of Smaug movie by the way. So looking forward to the third part, The Battle of the Five Armies will probably be epic, when werewolves, vampires, orcs, dwarves and eagles meet it aint going to be pleasant.

Apologies I tend to post a lot when I am bored but something and some song I was thinking about.

They Might Be Giants, you might remember their music from Malcolm in the Middle, you might not. But then You're not the Boss Of Me Now!
I'm not sure why I like this song so much, not sure at all why I ever did, but it's a little birdhouse in my soul.

OK I am going to mix and match between my favourite film of all time and a good song. A sort of dialectic between the two threads, and please forgive me for my sins, for of course I know not what I do.
The song that ends Fight Club:

Where is My Mind by Pixies. If you've seen that film you probably know this song. If you haven't watch that film, where is your mind!

My fav of theirs has to be Overkill, and I can do a pretty good rendition, if I must say so myself.
