The song Merzy Dotes and Dozy Dotes popped into the noggin apropos of nothing and stuck there as an earworm for a couple of days. And for some inexplicable reason, perhaps because of the state of my psyche and a continuing penchant for Dada, I just tossed it into that posting up there without a care in the world.

So, I just checked it out with a bit of research. The ditty was written in 1943 and recorded in 1944, and we know what was happening then.

Think of it. The whole world was on fire, really on fire, and this light-hearted nonsense song was popular. I don't know how popular, but it was published and recorded and because of the times, probably earned some money.

Was the song an antidote to hell on earth?
Or, did it reveal the effects of hell in a way other than moaning oh the agony of de feet. (From all the marching in those days.)
