In the last 300 years or more it has followed changing public opinion on ethics and has not led it, at least in the West.

This ought to be enough to assert that religion has nothing to do with the moral teaching of an immutable god, and everything to do with the vicissitudes of human society.
We should be suspicious and attack any claim that the church is the leader of ethical opinion.

Not anything but everything that denies the church the opportunity to blame an invisible super absentee God for their moral positions.

This is true to a point. The church can still, and still does, discriminate against gay marriage, and against gays becoming priests.

You really should be more careful and check your facts.I was not quoting from you, but Quoting "Greatest I am".
Look back to that 02 Mar 2011, 16:53, where you will see that the quote was already embedded in his work which I was quoting.
So it's you that are misquoting me.
As I was not even responding to what you were saying I hardly think it is up to you to lay down the law.
Sort yourself out and stop being so petty.

As you can see from the last example. Where all I did was write a response below yours - the whole thing can get screwed up. That is why I tend to use colour to distinguish my writing from others.

I don't think it matters much anymore if the Church discriminates against gays, because gays and the world have moved on, beyond the constraints of the Church. Life can be lived without the Church. And for many gays who remain religious, they have adjusted and learned to reconcile their life style with the dogma of the Church, accepting some doctrine and discarding others.

Today's gays are existentialist whose live style is not going to be crimped by some orthodox institution like the Church.

Your emotionally distracted from the issue.

I didn't find any mention that the Church made people kill gays.

The Church is a conservative institution. The acceptance of homosexuality is a liberal one. No wonder, then, there is still friction on the issue. However, we should take comfort in the fact that the liberal view is the dominant one.

This highlights the fact that we generally live in a liberal world that is constantly liberalizing.
