"What brings you back to this neck of the woods?"

You (Melian) came back to rule the Sindar after the sundering of the elves happened once Melkor was defeated and captured.

Am I right or am I right?

True, but when Thingol (her husband) was killed, she returned to Lorien in the undying lands. Her daughter Luthien chose a mortal life with Beren, and although their descendants were called "half elven", the blood of Melian the Maia also coursed through their veins. Sauron, Saruman and Gandalf were also Maiar.

The Girdle of Melian protected Thingol's kingdom of Doriath before his death and Melian's departure.

I don't know what to say to that, but here are a few possible replies.

1. I'll have the number four and an ice water with lemon, thank you.

2. I hope you don't talk like that at work, Maia.

3. Uluth al'quan hadi seet tal'acht!

The more people who ask me who or what I came as, the more people I'll get to talk to and bore to tears with my Tolkien geekery.
Aren't you living in Lorien these days? What brings you back to this neck of the woods?
I can't seem to stay away from Middle-earth, for some reason.

I said, in Sindarin, "I have to go, but I shall return" as I was heading out to work for the evening.

I don't know what "Uluth al'quan hadi seet tal'acht!" means, though. It sounds a bit Lovecraftian, but ChatGPT doesn't recognise it.

With regard to your offer of a costume, it's not that I'm concerned about strings, or anything, but rather, that I don't really want to give out my address, or even that of my local post office. In any case, the party is tomorrow, so it's probably too late, anyway.

I do appreciate it, though. And, as I said, I'm happy to email you. I've corresponded with quite a few people from here and ILP, including Biggs.

That's why i offered to wire the money, silly. We could have used Western Union, and you wouldn't have had to give out any personal information. Not even a phone number. The Nazgûl would never be able to find you, so you'd be safe.

There's always next year if Sauron (Putin) doesn't destroy Upper-earth before then.

Maybe next year, then.

Yes, well, this minor holiday travesty is partially my fault. It wouldn't be unheard of if you weren't familar with Western Union or had never used it before. So, I should have said more. Yeah, all you do is give the person a tracking number to claim the money either at a Western Union or online, and that's it. Bada bing, bada boom.

Why would a man be offering to send money to some random woman on an internet forum :?

"Why would a man be offering to send money to some random woman on an internet forum"

Would you believe that a member at a forum i was at back in 08 wired me some money (offered without me asking) when i was homeless and living in my truck? Then, in 2011, i was sent care packages and books while in prison from other forum members. As you can see, forum members sending gifts to each other is not that strange. Certainly not in my experience.

"totally out of prom's league of course, goes without saying but I said it nonetheless"

You're crazy, mate. I'd have Maia dressed in Gucci and driving my Escalade.
