Australia is one of a kind. Canadian culture is about as exciting as pablum, for better or worse. 
I'm a migrant myself, mate, for almost the same length of time, so I hear you loud and clear. Paying through the nose to keep the Rineharts, Packers, et al on the gravy train is but one of our treasured cultural traditions. We have quite a few others, not the least of which is the fact that we drink far too much beer to be accurately defined as sentient. We're also good at getting into foreign wars which are none of our bloody business, which may well have something to with the non-sentient bit.
