The world's a cesspool and it's going to keep getting worse as long as wealth is being concentrated in ever fewer hands. We are paying the few to destroy the economy and all our institutions. It's the era of greed where rich dollars are worth more than other peoples' and rich dollars are politically correct and globalist in nature. Only rich dollars can buy legislation.

But this doesn't mean things will get worse for all individuals. You have a lot going for you so your chances of recovering or finding another route are good. The problems with the economy and the culture are structural and they are secondary problems for most individuals. You have time to recover and or reinvent yourself. Hang in there and keep trying. Try to do things that help yourself and others. Try getting a hobby if you have oo many hours on your hands. Be patient. The economy is improving and your odds of finding work keep going up and long as you don't give up.

Thank you for the encouragement cladking. I agree that the world seems to be turning into a "waste dump". I'm currently trying to cut down on my "carbon footprint" at least a little. I can't erase it entirely but I do have room to reduce it some. It's also not easy to do given lack of infrastructure for such purposes. For example, public transportation is not very good in many parts of the US. I currently reside in a house in the suburbs of a city. (Not much change I can afford to move at this point.) Local employment is not great but I have applied to work at a grocery store down the road from me. Haven't heard back from them yet. I used to commute an hour to work in an office environment every day for reasonably good pay. I quit because too many things were nagging at me about working there.

We can't do anything about those things but we can do something about the environment and global climate change (if it is really happening and if it is really bad). We can also do something about wars and killing innocent civilians. I don't know if anything can be done about me always being "wrong" in everything I say and do or if anything can be done about me making "errors" but we all need to wake up and do something (at least it seems that way to me). ...
I think there's probably more chance in you changing but I like your optimistic hope. What do you think we could all do about what you say? That is, how could you go about getting the change you wish for?
EDIT: Or maybe something "good" is being done and I just don't know it yet?
Good is being done all over the place, its just not 'news'.

Only if you believe the news. Although I'd be interested in how you make the calculation that evil is trumping good.

I'm not surprised that the gnu sides with the fear-makers, doom-mongers and cassandras as its that atmosphere that you need to sell your tat.

"No man in the wrong can stand up against a fellow that’s in the right and keeps on a-comin."
Texas Rangers motto (Bill McDonald, 1852-1918)

But it wouldn't be much of a climax if BadArse didn't temporarily put some significant whuppin' to PearlyHandles in the middle of the show.

Perhaps time to start thinking more about yourself and less about others?

Why should it matter if you complain? As long as the complaint address something in your world that you want to do something about, it's not a bad complaint.

Agreed, with the point being " ...do something about"

Hmmm. So Athens was a democracy and the people of Athens put the very best man in all of Athens to death (Socrates). That was inexcusable. I believe it was also the case during the French "Revolution" that the "people" also put some of their most just thinkers to death, people who had in some cases even inspired the revolution against the monarchy. That was inexcusable. If I'm not mistaken, the same thing happened in the Russian Revolution when the Bolsheviks took over. Revenge is a powerful motivator for the oppressed and it can get out of hand.

One would like to hope that there could be "aristocracy" (rule by the best). Unfortunately aristocrats aren't always in positions of power, especially when other members of the powerful have made a complete mockery of the institution of leadership. The other problem with "aristocracy" is that no one is perfect. No one is omniscient. Even aristocrats can make profound mistakes.

Nope, he didn't have to die, he chose this exit.

The worlds not a cesspool at all it is a beautiful and wonderful place, a pity it had to be populated with remedial barely functioning apes with a penchant for stupidity, and then violence when stupidity does not work, but the world is not to blame for that. :)

I think one has to look at the bigger picture: if we don't learn from our mistakes we will be wiped out and replaced by something else - archaeology and history has taught us this at least - the only thing you can hope is that when that race of arachnids or insectoids or the planet of the other apes or whatever, is sifting through the detritus we left they learn something about dumb. It is all the hope we have.
