raw,
That's not how I see...you aren't discussin' truth (that which is true, is real), but instead are dissectin', and reducin', and makin' truth meaningless.
Nit pickin'.

It's maybe not easy to understand this if you don't have (memory of) an adequate background in philosophy, but if you're interested in philosophy, and hopefully you would be if you're frequenting this board, it's worth taking the time to understand (and I'm happy to explain any of it in more detail to aid understanding). It wouldn't make any sense to me to not want to be educated about a field one is supposedly interested in.
Well put. Spheres and Henry are on a philosophy site and yet criticize people for talking philosophy!

Nit pickin'.
Scroll back, we are attempting to define truth.

Actually your "Truth= reality" is meaningless as it is a tautology.

"talking philosophy"
"we are attempting to define truth"
HA!
We'll have to agree to disagree on that.

Why hang out on a philosophy board if you see philosophy as something that tends to negatively nitpick, dissect, reduce and make meaningless?

Please, respect the context of my comments.
You know damned well I'm not condemin' the site or its participants.
You know damned well I'm talkin't about a select few who see themselves as guardians of the 'right way', folks who'll lecture and dick around with how many angels can poop on the head of a pin. You know who I'm talkin' about...the ones who weigh sparrow farts and ignore the sparrow.
meh...carry on...wastin' my time.

OK whatever, so terrapin and I and ALL academic philosophers ( we were simply telling you what they say) are nit pickers. WOW!
Seriously, since you obviously hate philosophy why are you here? OH so you can engage in ad hominums.

Its funny how the debate went. First Spheres and henry try to redefine words and then when they are caught at it, they say that this debate about definitions is nit picking! Well, if you had not used unconventional definitions this nit picking would have never begun. When people can define a word any way they want it becomes meaningless.

What you were picking on was the few posts that actually resembled doing philosophy. That's not unusual non-contextually, as a lot of folks pick on philosophy if they're not used to analyzing things in that way, if they're not comfortable with analyzing things in that way, if something would require any intellectual work on their part so that criticism emerges as a sudden anti-intellectual bent, and so on.
What's more unusual is for that to be the line someone takes on a message board of a site devoted to philosophy.
and *WHOOSH!* the point goes right over his head

Actually, we get your point. Like a child you are having a tantrum and basically calling people poopyheads. You gave no argument. All you did was state your opinion that all philosophers are nit pickers and you are wise.

Its too bad that you and spheres have turned an interesting debate about truth into silly semantics. Even if your definition of truth is better then the conventional definition of truth, it still means that there cannot be any discussion as to how we can identify truth. If truth is not the relation of propositions to reality then there is no way to tell if a statement is true or false.
