Synthesizer rock ruled Jessica's feet
As a slave to that ubiquitous beat
Visions of the big screen danced in her head
'In a matter of time' she said

Jessie never got her Hollywood role
And the pogo nights have taken there toll
She can do the monkey off o' the cuff
But her mind had a missing link
Am I in sync?

Laboratory rats made Roger a fink
And the laws of science drove him to drink
Working for the taste of public acclaim
And a cure that bore his name

Nobel prizes would have been nice
But he lost his mind to renegade mice
Roger traded dreams of 'Man of the Year'
For an understanding shrink
Am I in sync?

Here are the young men, the weight on their shoulders
Here are the young men, well where have they been?
We knocked on the doors of Hell's darker chamber
Pushed to the limit, we dragged ourselves in

Watched from the wings as the scenes were replaying
We saw ourselves now as we never had seen
Portrayal of the trauma and degeneration
The sorrows we suffered and never were free

Weary inside, now our heart's lost forever
Can't replace the fear, or the thrill of the chase
Each ritual showed up the door for our wanderings
Open then shut, then slammed in our face

I never make it to the end of this one without bursting into tears...

Oh, it's a cold, cold stone wall, one hand
One face against the wall
I watch the people and they're
Each weighing their private losses
And the cold sweet morning air
Surrounds a crop of blank white crosses

I'm reading, I'm not believing
They're all just names on a wall
They were once living hey were
Once breathing now
They're all just names
Names on a wall

Oh, I press my ear against the wall
I hear a helicopter, a bomb explode
I hear the echoes of a thousand souls
And then one young face
He says to me, please remember me
I want to set him free but all I see are
Blank white crosses stretched out to infinity

Hey Johnny
Can you hear your momma call?
Hey Johnny
She leaves the light on in the hall
Hey Johnny
Can you hear your momma call?
Hey Johnny
She leaves the light on in the hall

When I'm Gone - Randy Newman
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqtUerahhmE
lyrics wrote: The time for us to say goodbye is near
The day I hoped would never come is here
Though many hearts are broken we must somehow carry on
Cause I think you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

I thought my life was over when we met
So little to remember, so much to forget
Though it was you who saw me through the darkness to the dawn
Still I think you're gonna miss me when I'm gone

I'm a modest man
And it hurts me to say these things to you
After all we've been through it's the least that I can do
So instead of just goodbye I'll say so long
And as for the light by which you see me leave it on
I'm a better man than I was before
knowing you has made me strong
and I sure am going to miss you when I'm gone
Yes I sure am going to miss you when I'm gone

I was recently listening to The Seekers. Judith Durham had the most perfect voice.

I never thought that I would find myself
In bed amongst the stones
The columns are all men begging to crush me
No shapes sail on the dark deep lakes
And no flags wave me home

In the caves, all cats are grey
In the caves, the texture coats my skin
In the death cell, a single note rings on and on and on

_______

Nights in White Satin

Here is a fantastic live version of The Moody Blues performing that song with a full symphony orchestra...

https://youtu.be/89ZQnWvWcAE

David Justin Hayward's voice is particularly good in this live version, and the orchestra nailed it.

I personally feel that "Nights in White Satin" is not only one of the greatest songs ever written, but the original recording...

(including the entire album titled, "Days of Future Passed")

...is the all-time greatest merger between a symphony and a progressive rock group.

A man broke into my neighbourhood
He threatened the family with a loaded gun
He tied them all up and beat 'em real good
He took everything, and he got away clean

And I can't believe that anyone would
Wanna do such a terrible thing
But why should I care?

Did ya hear about Fred? He's unemployed
They threw him away like a useless toy
He went down the drain after twenty long years
No warning, no pension, and nobody's tears
But why should I care?

Every time I look around this place
I see them scream, but I hear no sound
And the terrible things happen down the road
To somebody else that I don't even know

Have you heard about the Joneses, my, my, my
It happened so quick, and no one knows why
Their teenage son, he seemed okay
But his suicide ruined everyone's day
But why should I care?

Only a Lad
https://youtu.be/Js4yGcgO6hk?si=czKcNxRDfOl0BSoO

Johnny was bad
Even as a child, everybody could tell
Everyone said, "If you don't get straight you'll surely go to Hell"
But, Johnny didn't care
He was an outlaw by the time that he was ten years old
He didn't wanna do what he was told
Just a prankster
A juvenile gangster

His teachers didn't understand
They kicked him out of school
At a tender early age just because
He didn't want to learn things
Had other interests
He liked to burn things!

The lady down the block
She had a radio that Johnny wanted, oh, so bad
So he took it the first chance he had
And then he shot her in the leg
But this is what she said
only a lad
You really can't blame him
Only a lad
Society made him
Only a lad
He's our responsibility
Only a lad
He's underprivileged and abused
Perhaps a little bit confused

His parents gave up
They couldn't influence his attitude
Nobody could help
The little man had no gratitude
And when he stole the car
Nobody dreamed that he would try to take it so far
He didn't mean to hit the poor man
Who had to go and die
It made the judge cry
Only a lad
He really couldn't help it

It's not his fault that he can't behave
Society's made him go astray
Perhaps if we're nice, he'll go away
Perhaps he'll go away, he'll go away

Hey there Johnny
You really don't fool me
You get away with murder, and you think it's funny
You don't give a damn if we live or if we die
Hey there Johnny boy
I hope you fry!

Billy said this town is dying
It's dying just to be like me
He was fighting everything in sight
Died when he was 23

I used to meet him down at his cafe
He had one eye on the door
And the other on the writing on the wall
He'd get restless and angry and we'd all laugh
'cause we weren't really scared
We was his friends, he wouldn't hurt us at all
And all he'd say was rain, rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain
Rain, rain, rain

Ladies and Gentlemen
Damen und Herren
Mesdames et Messieurs
Caballeros und Horsewomen of the world
I give to you the fantastic Nelly
And her performing elephants
An extraordinary exhibition
Of animal dexterity
From the jungles of darkest Africa

The elephant's tusk is very valuable
But an elephant is very hard to catch
Elephants are extremely fond of oranges
Of which they consume enormous quantities
