There's nothing I look forward to more than a reasoned response to my argument; I've yet to see one.

And what argument would that be, you have yet to produce one

I state an argument on every thread.

Go ahead with your ring-around-the-rosy game instead of making or responding to an argument.

I take it you play a lot of ring-around-the-rosy, right?

No, you've turned ring-around-the rosy into a fine art that children wouldn't understand.

Rarely in discussions on educational achievement or on "failing schools" will any of the discussants mention anything about the student working hard.

"Every study I know of that compares the amount of time that black students and Asian American students spend watching television, and how much time they spend on school work, shows disparities as great as the disparities in their academic outcomes.

When teaching at UCLA, years ago, I once went into a library on a Saturday night, noticed how many Asian students were studying — and looked around in vain for any black students. How surprised should I have been when Asian students did better in the courses I taught?"

The only conclusion you can draw from the article seems to be that there is a lack of "Tiger Mums" within poorer sections of the community. No doubt some mums don't see the value of education. No doubt many of the children themselves don't see the value of education.

I would disagree that this aspect of the problem is rarely considered. In fact I think a lot is being done in terms of school community role models.
