i think the meaning of kant in this case is fairly clear
one could describe how i came to have moral beliefs views attitudes etc that i do have
however there would never be any logical link between any such explanation and any moral prescriptions
i think it is wrong to torture kittens for entertainment and there are many reasons why i think that
but it does not follow that it is in any universal sense wrong to torture kittens
no amount of experiential description of morality could lead to a universal statement about morality
now some have concluded from this that there is no universal morality at all all we have is morality in the anthropological sense
but kant never positively asserted that there is a universal morality
rather he wrote about what universal morality would be like if there were a universal morality
and he also argued that we cannot help but think in moral terms
hope this clarifies things a bit
i will see if i can find a good intro to kant book for you
this is a vast topic its difficult to give it fair treatment in a casual post in a discussion forum
A Belief that Morals Come from a God is an Immoral Belief
Re: A Belief that Morals Come from a God is an Immoral Belie
Beliefs can not be moral or immoral. The value of a belief comes from its epistemological qualities, i.e. its truth value or its evidentiary support.
You may be right that the opinion is unsupported, but it is not immoral.
