Americans have a written Constitution. The law of a land is also the spirit of the law.

It sure looks that way. Maybe only if a candidate win is by such a landslide that none of the anticipated protestations of unfairness are even relevant will things get settled down. But that's a long-shot prospect, perhaps.

Either way, we could probably use some new politicians. The problem is that the whole system has become so utterly corrupt and divided in its own right that good people rarely go into public life. The penalties for doing so are too steep now. The opposition will flay you alive, in public.

The spectacle of the two recent Senate nominations is enough to drive most good candidates behind cover. Kudos to the two who stuck it out.
