Pro golf isn’t a team sport though the scores can be organized as such, and team organized match play is different and fun for the pros. Match play is usually an amateur format, pairings must be strategic. Civilized mano a mano.

Non-American pros play the PGA tour for the money. It just so happens that any player who is the best can play on that tour, no matter where they come from. Rule-of-law still applies in golf.

The best dart players seem to somehow stay connected to the dart after it leaves the fingertips. Golf applies the connected precision of darts to a bigger board that’s subject to atmospheric conditions which gives golfers time to talk to the ball in flight, but golf is healthier than darts since playing involves walking farther while surrounded by manicured beauty and breathing fresh air under blue skies.

Oh Dear the UK just fucked the USA in the arse in the World's most prestigious GOLF contest by getting GOLD in Brazil.

Which brings me to ask why doesn't the USA do better at getting Olympic Medals, compared to the Uk which is 1/5th the size of the USA.

The olympics now is just a joke. There are people competing for countries they probably haven't even heard of, just because they couldn't make their National team. It used to be a pleasure to see what the human spirit is capable of--for love; not money. Now it's obnoxious multi-millionaire tossers with the money and expertise behind them to cheat the drug-tests. In other words it's become a big bore.

Its' easy enough to account for China being outside the West, and only coming towards it in the last generation.

Because in certain sports they've at last become professional about funding and training.

I'm going to hit you with further stats that will make you think further. Currently the UK has 63 medals in the Olympics. The US does have 111 medals, but that's not the significant stat. Michigan has 15 medals and a population of about 10 million while the UK has 63 medals and a population of 65 million so on a population basis, Michigan (which is part of the US) is doing better than the UK and from what I read, Michigan is guaranteed to pick up two more medals tomorrow. Wahoo!

15 in 10 million - that's 1 medal for every 150,000 population....

Bramhope (which is part of the UK) has a population of 3,400. The Brownlee bothers who totally smashed the men's Triathlon won silver and gold. I don't know if there is anyone else from Bramhope in the Olymics, but the medal to population ratio is 1 in 1700

So suck on that!
