As I told one fellow of genius IQ, I make better use of my mere above average IQ than he does with his. Anyways, simplicity works for them and me. Nice and uncluttered.
If survival is the be all and end all of a species, clearly it's a strength. They were the first to exist, and will likely be the last. Too bad, really. I prefer housecats, myself.

Yeah, but clearly survival is not the end all be all. Who cares about survival when you're starving? Clearly the end all be all is the ability to be happy. Their ability to survive is undeniably a strength. The question is whether it is worth much.

The only time when it's the primary focus, I guess.
Happiness is a cycle. Things go well, you get happy, you get proud, you get sloppy, things go wrong, you fall into a funk until you arrive at a quiet near-egoless mindset, things start to go well again, you get happy ...

That's what I mean by sophisticated. I'm pretty sure bacteria doesn't experience happiness.
