No its not happening "everywhere"

In each case it is a "LOCAL" problem, not a global one. The danger is that LA will try to pretend a global problem and wash its hands of its own responsibility. There is not a global drought, but a series of localised abuses of water use.

When a series of local abuses becomes a web of local abuses and the local webs all connect up to a network that reaches around the Earth, it's reasonable to call it a global crisis.

HC, you make me laugh. It can't be a local problem since the residents in California have friends and relatives outside of the state. Plus Washington politics have an interest too in this drought.

The water problems of LA are not even a drought, by normal standards of defintion. LA has not suffered from an unusual period of lack of rainfall. In fact LA has never depended on its own rainfall in any sense. LA imports all its water from far afield. This usage has increased and gone basically unabated for nearly 100 years now, and many local ecosystems have suffered as a result.

Calling it a 'drought' is pretending that there is a cause outside the solution of the Los Angeleans, when in fact LA is just profligate with its water. When I lived there back in 1980 I was always pretty horrified to see how many people used lawn sprinklers in the middle of day.

Americans I knew despite knowing full well where their water came from seemed utterly unrepentant and continued to compete with their neighbours on how often they "had to" mow their lawns.

Drought is not 'everywhere'. It is localised to poor water management (if you can have the effrontery to call it a drought in the first place).
