No, the Hebrew is clear that "kill" in the general sense is not what YHWH forbade. The 6th Commandemnt is a prohibition against unjust killing. It should be translated "Thou shalt not murder." Many modern translations do so. As such, God commanded "his" people not to murder. Insofar as battle was commanded by "him," it was not a violation of the 6th Commandment.
