Walker, if you think my challenging your identification of "garden variety liberals" as leftists means I am arguing that the left does not exist then you are misunderstanding me entirely. There most certainly is a "left".

Keep in mind, ON MANY ISSUES there will be no difference between a "garden variety liberal" and a "leftist". But all that means is that the issue isn't specific to "the left". THAT is why I have been asking you if you have ever read source materials written by leftists. Also keep in mind I am old enough to remember when the Republican Party was the more liberal on social issues (the Democrats still contained the "Dixiecrats")

I was unclear. I was speaking to principle, but not using you as an example. Rather, I have heard folks declare that there is no Left and Right ... folks declare a lot of things like something is nothing, war is peace, up is down ... you get the drift. But none of these are written with you in mind, personally.

The principle is double-think, perhaps not strict double-think that involves once-upon-a-time futuristic memory holes at the Ministry of Truth, but rather a variation from the same taproot. Call the principle, willful ignorance and to be generous, willful ignorance meant to elicit participation.

Again, my deficiencies caused the confusion, which very likely could be shared by others less, shall we say, circumspect.
