Re: Connecticut School Massacre - pass the ammunition
The NRA is a FUNDRAISING organization. They collect money to lobby for gun issues and to EDUCATE. It is my thought that they do more than this and are involved in helping to bring new safety technology to the populace, because for a while they were handing out free safety mechanisms to put on triggers so that a gun can not accidentally fire. I don't know if they still do this, as safety locks can now be sold with the weapon.Kayla wrote:gee perhaps i overstated things a bit
most nra members are reasonably responsible - which includes storing guns safely - not mixing guns and alcohol etc
however there are plenty who should not be trusted with anything more dangerous than a spork - there are enough of them to question whether nra - as an organization - has much of a commitment to gun safety
If you want the NRA to be responsible for stopping idiots with guns, then you have to give the NRA the right to arrest those people. That means that you would have to pay them for doing that job, just like you pay the police, or firemen. You are mixing up issues, and not thinking this through. To blame the NRA because some nut has a gun is like blaming the National Cancer Foundation because some doctor at a Cancer Center was negligent and let someone die. They are not the same thing.
If you want to make sure that the NRA is not influenced by rich people, who like guns--or idiots, who like guns, the answer is simple. Just have everybody, who is sane, donate to the NRA so that they can do their job without having to be dependent on a membership of the rich or the idiots.

Gee, it has been my experience that arguing with a fanatic is like banging your head against a wall, it feels so much better when you stop. And as far as posting an alternate view for the benefit of lurkers, do you really think anyone important is reading this thread?

Re: Connecticut School Massacre - pass the ammunition
Left-wing liberals in the U.S. want to abolish the ownership of "assault rifles." Does anybody care to offer a definition of an "assault rifle."
