Haven't you been paying any attention to what's been going on around here lately?

Here's a quote from a recent post from Rick:
RickLewis wrote: Thu Aug 22, 2024 8:32 pm After investigating in some depth, Bora has concluded that the best solution would be to increase the level of protection that an external web security company provides. This costs quite a lot of extra money so we may have to put some adverts at the top of the Forum to pay for this. And please consider subscribing to Philosophy Now magazine (https://philosophynow.org/shop) - it is excellent value and we need to balance the books in order to keep this show on the road!
So shut up and let Rick do what he needs to do to advertise the magazine in order to raise the extra money he needs to keep this forum up and running for us.

Hi Rick, with reference to a conversation we had quite some time ago I don't think I understood your questioning regarding what works best regarding the TIME display.

I think it would be a really good idea to have GMT time on every page similarly to the index page.

Another suggestion is to disable NOTIFICATION emails when one is merely logged in and viewing a thread...may I suggest limiting to only when one is posting within a thread.

It's annoying receiving emails when you've been browsing threads that you are not particularly interested in because you are logged in. The user has to keep logging out to check thread contents to avoid being sent notifications.

How long is the site going to remain all fucked up! One never knows when one will be dropped, lose a post, or be banned repeatedly.

Hi Popeye, I have no idea - I am not seeing these problems. The only issue I'm currently aware of is that if you spend too long composing a post, you may be logged out (and hence lose the post). For that, I recommend that if you are planning a long or tricky post, you should compose it in Word or somewhere and then copy and paste it to the forum afterwards.

I don't know about the banning repeatedly thing. We have had a couple of issues with people seeing messages that they were banned when they were not banned. I think that was to do with them having IP addresses close to ones that had been banned, though I may be wrong.

We keep staggering on and keeping the forum up is costing substantial sums in terms of paying Cloudflare to combat the bot problem.

OK, thanks for the update--Rick! appreciate it.

There are a number of people here, who are only here because they have nowhere else to go, they are obviously deficient.
So, why no add a new index, a sanitarium. Restrict some people to the sanitarium, do not ban them, give them a place they can be themselves.

I.E. a restricted index to the forum for special people.
A free zone for the mentally disabled. They are already here, nor can they control themselves. Why not? Be the first, or one of the first, to offer them sanctuary.

The insane asking ourselves to be restricted to a sanitarium? I suppose it makes sense. Someone from the group has to step up and petition for it. I second the request.

Oh, I do not think you need to vote on it. Is it not written that the Earth, itself, is sanitarium because mankind is insane until he learns judgment?
The Earth is, and rightly so, said to be a sanitarium, and evolution the only cure.
