Re: Music
If that piece was done today Max would have probably enthralled everyone with a huge, virtuosic solo rather than banging down that five time, repetitive and becoming ever more intense, until it stops - like a slave's life ...vegetariantaxidermy wrote:But didn't you want him to just get going with those drums?Greta wrote: I love the passion of this performance, Max Roach 5tet featuring Abbey Lincoln - Driva Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF6q6XKKrik

Must be too intense for me then.Greta wrote:If that piece was done today Max would have probably enthralled everyone with a huge, virtuosic solo rather than banging down that five time, repetitive and becoming ever more intense, until it stops - like a slave's life ...vegetariantaxidermy wrote:But didn't you want him to just get going with those drums?Greta wrote: I love the passion of this performance, Max Roach 5tet featuring Abbey Lincoln - Driva Man: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IF6q6XKKrik
Re: Music
I prefer the female performances of the tune. More appropriate to the lyrics.
"SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME" - Winehouse
George and Ira Gershwin – 1926

If you like the drums you might like this:

This could be the best jazz album of all time.
Saw him at Ronnie Scotts a few years ago. He's still banging them rhythms out undiminished by the years.

I always loved Billy. Stratus is one of my practice tunes (much simplified of course).Hobbes' Choice wrote:The master of DRUMS; Billy Cobham.

I didn't see BC live but I did see Tony Smith with John McLaughlin's One Truth Band. The playing and sound were immaculate and I loved TS's toms and main ride. An interesting passage between JM's and L. Shankhar playing Indian-style virtuoso tambourine - uncanny musical telepathy.

Re: Music
Yes BC is a real pro. He last project Asere was great if you love those Latin vibes. BC is versatile and never bowed down to commercialisation. He's reviving the 1970 stuff with "spectrum" at the moment. I get the feeling with him that he always loves what he does, and is willing to travel the world even to the smallest venues.Greta wrote:I always loved Billy. I saw him having a cup of tea here (presumably before a show):

And have seen him play here:
