Quit acting like a bratty child.
How do you know that? What is the ontological or metaphysical premise supporting your statement? This is a
philosophy forum, after all, not a home for snotty trolls.
Hmm, the OP was a celebration of the fact that gays can marry, so it is in fact you who is the 'snotty troll'.

Pompous waffle and hot air. You are trying to disguise your own personal bigotry as philosophical discourse.

Well I don't think the reason for marriage is all cynical as that. However, I must say, when I was younger...I dreamed of getting married...I didn't think so much about the love or the future groom . I thought about the dress...the decorating of the room and the wedding party, the food I would have, the honeymoon I would go on. Well, just the planning of everything is fun.
You probably never played barbies or dress up as a child, but the funniest thing about playing those games was getting everything ready. You had to set up barbies house...dress her...find which guy she was going to date (Ken or GI Joe), etc....by the time you got everything in place, you were too over it to play anymore. It was boring after that.
Maybe the reason so many divorces? The marriage and honeymoon are the fun part? Once you get down to playing marriage in real life, it becomes boring?
Ah the time honored tradition of divorce! We must not let homosexuals mess with the tradition of divorce! It's blasphemy I tell you!

Actually dress-ups was my favourite game, and I liked my dolls (the idea of dolls 'dating' is a very American one though). I have just never been fascinated by the idea of a wedding, although I do enjoy royal weddings because of the music and pageantry. I didn't say I've never been married, it just seems rather pointless, especially when couples who aren't married get the same legal rights as married couples.
Plus, does anyone stay married in your country? I get the impression hardly anyone does, which rather makes a sham of the whole thing.

Well, most of my friends and I have been married for a while. 25+ years.
I think people sometimes mistake lust for love. And it's particularly hard for Christians here because most believe that you shouldn't have sex before marriage. ..so they'll get married fast cause their horny...but then find out they have nothing else in common...well except sex and God...not necessarily in that order. ..lol

And that coming from someone without any basic premises at all. Seriously, can you get any more pathetic?

How is it 'wrong'? And please don't say 'because it says so in the bible'. I mean a rational, reasonable reason.
So anyone who doesn't get married has to stay abstinent for their entire life? We all know what happens when *that's* a requirement.
What an irrational crock of shit religion is.

I agree with you about religion, however I am worried what these religious types would become without it. Seems to me, they need it if only to remind them it's not nice to kill one another. ..and even then, they still have to be reminded on a weekly basis!
I don't know why it's wrong. I certainly don't think it's wrong. Maybe cause immaculate conception?
It does make the Christian mating ritual interesting. ..lol...kidding.

most christians i know will, if pressed, admit to having sex before marriage
in practice, the more hard-core christians will not have sex until they decided, at least in principle, that they want to get married

You're not very bright, are you? Evolution, using religion a the vehicle, worked out a solution to a problem: sex leads to children and children without the support of a nuclear family leads to social unrest. Here are some statistics:
*63 percent of youth suicides are from fatherless homes (U.S. Dept. Of Health/Census) -- five times the average.
*90 percent of all homeless and runaway children are from fatherless homes -- 32 times the average.
*85 percent of all children who show behavior disorders come from fatherless homes -- 20 times the average. (Center for Disease Control)
*80 percent of rapists with anger problems come from fatherless homes -- 14 times the average. (Justice and Behavior, Vol 14, p. 403-26)
*71 percent of all high school dropouts come from fatherless homes -- Nine times the average. (National Principals Association Report)
*75 percent of all adolescent patients in chemical abuse centers come from fatherless homes -- 10 times the average. (Rainbows for All God's Children)
*70 percent of youths in state-operated institutions come from fatherless homes -- 9 times the average. (U.S. Dept. of Justice, Sept. 1988)
*85 percent of all youths in prison come from fatherless homes -- 20 times the average. (Fulton Co. Dept. of Correction)
Of course, you could always just kill the unwanted babies.

No need to kill them, if you don't have them. (Children, that is.) Vastly more merciful. Why this never occurs to anyone is beyond me.
Anyways, carry on.

accidental pregnancies, and hence unwanted babies, are extremely rare among gays and lesbians
