When Jesus overturned the tables of the Pharisees, was he upset that the Pharisees were collecting money in general or was he upset by what they were using the money for? Were tithes required or given at the discretion of the one giving them? Does anyone know the full backstory? Color me curious.

The tyranny of The Supremes exists because there are no checks and balances on that third branch of government, as there are on branch one and two.

In fact, during the confirmation hearings, Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, who was appointed to The Supremes during the Biden administration (Biden being the leader of The Democrat Party That Hates America at the time), would not even define what a woman is, because of her political activism.

Good question. Here's the answer I believe is correct.

He was judging the way they had gotten the money, actually. He said that pretty explicitly: he accuses them of "turning His Father's house into a "den of thieves."

What they'd been doing, we know from independent history, is refusing to allow people to sacrifice freely the animals they brought, and making them buy religiously-vetted animals for sacrifice instead, and recycling the original animals into the system, and then pocketing the profits that came from the difference between the real value and the artificially-raised value of the animals.

They'd been leveraging people's desire to do the right thing in order to defraud them.

General principles are abstracted from particular events. Tithing for Old Testament Jews , and taxation for Europeans in 2025 are particulars of the same principle that civilised societies support those in need.

"In the Old Testament, tithing played a crucial role in supporting the poor and needy. A portion of the tithes, collected and administered by the priesthood, was specifically designated for their care. This system ensured that vulnerable individuals like widows, orphans, and foreigners were provided for, functioning as a form of social welfare alongside its religious function. "

I quote from The Bible not to add religious authority but as historical evidence.

They have this much in common: both are cases of the rich exploiting the poor. But one was in the name of religious rule, and the other is in the name of "the public good."
