It's usually funny scenes that stick in my head. Like the one where Michael Douglas blew up some pointless traffic-stalling 'road works' after getting instructions from a small boy bystander on how to operate his bazooka. I can relate to that.

If I weren't so afraid of your wrath, Veggie, I would say your liking that scene has in a large part to do with a penis envy.
But I shan't say that. Carry on.

I would say it has a large part to do with road-works, and finding humour in the recognisable

The Cain Mutiny
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw6gwGawbXA
In this scene, the officers are celebrating the destruction of their captain.
Then, karma enters the room to spoil the punchbowl, so to speak.
They sure don’t make them like this anymore.
The scene is about ethics.
It is the ethics that was applied to every US president before Nixon.
What do you think?
Would a new film with these themes be alien, or popular?

American films in those days had scripts, with actual dialogue, and actors rather than 'pretty-boy' models.

Black humour.
Here's one of mine, an example of twisted logic by a serial killer played by Tom Cruise in Collateral:
https://youtu.be/ChfP21iMX9k
You know,
The serial killer, Vincent, has just killed an Angelino and laid the corpse in the trunk.
Vin: what do you care? Have you ever heard of Rwanda?
Max: yes, I know Rwanda!
Vin: no one has ever gotten killed that fast since Nagasaki and Hiroshima... (paraphrase)
...
Max: man, I don't know any Rwandans!
Vin: you don't know the guy in the trunk either (implying that it's ok to kill people one doesn't know) and then some more dialogue...

This is one of the 20thC greatest films, and arguably Kirk Douglas' and Kubrick's best.
Major Dax (Kirk) has just returned from a argument with his general after an unsuccessful defence of 4 men for cowardice resulting in a firing squad. The accused has been chosen at random from a group of French soldiers, among the few who had returned from a hopeless mission, against the German lines
He has to return to his men, now enjoying a drink with news that they are to return to the trenches and most probably to their deaths. His company of French soldiers jeer at the German girl paraded on stage for their amusement....

Less than two quid.
The scent of a woman is great.
I won't pay for that, I don't need it to feel great with myself.
Well Al Pacino's hammy acting and ugly voice certainly aren't to everyone's taste.
stick with Serpico, or Dog Day Afternoon.
he goes from good to horrible in the acting department after the 1970's
