That's a bad analogy. Race isn't the same as Blindness. Some people go blind over the course of a lifetime; some people lose their vision and sight. But nobody "loses" their Race. Furthermore, this thread (correct me if I'm mistaken), is about regaining vision, or in the case of Maia, gaining vision for the first time. That is significant...especially when it comes to Philosophy, both of which apply to Maia.
Maia, however usually does the opposite of what I've recommended to her in the past, so I'm not going to suggest her to or not to try getting one of these devices. But it would be a miraculous thing, for people to regain, or gain vision for the first time. Science is producing results for deaf people, gaining and regaining audial functions.
But vision is something different, and far more advanced than audial information and feedback / cognitive function.

I just think it's weird that someone implied you have to make up for being blind lol.
Wizard doesn't understand the race analogy because he doesn't understand that people can be born with particular traits.

I'd be happy to try something like this out, for the sake of curiosity if nothing else, if it wasn't invasive. The problem with having implants stuck into my visual cortex is that it might mess up something that I rely on, such as echolocation. Maybe the risk is tiny, but I don't think it's worth it.

It's definitely not how I see it, for sure. But I'm always prepared to cut people some slack if they are unfamiliar with the subject, or perhaps uncomfortable with it.

If I were 70 or 80 years old, I might take such a risk. But yes, I wouldn't want to have my skull cracked open for experimentation while young and healthy.

Echolocation is amazing. A different form of sight. It says here that he's the only one in the world--so the understanding of it must have advanced a lot since this documentary.

Yes. It does seem quite a sweeping and presumptuous statment. It's an old documenatary though. Sadly that boy died young because his cancer returned.
