Indeed, just be cause someone is in Uganda doesnβt mean they are from Uganda. They might be from Archangel or Anchorage or anywhere. But we are also given a name. Emmanuel Katto doesnβt sound like he was born and brought up in Brooklyn. I think itβs reasonable to assume that Emmanuel Katto in Uganda is a black African, and itβs pretty clear that attofishpi has made that assumption.Harbal wrote: βMon May 20, 2024 4:06 pmIt could be both, but I see nothing to suggest that it is. We haven't been told anything about the posters race, only his location, so that is the only thing that fishy had to base his comment on.mickthinks wrote: βMon May 20, 2024 3:46 pmInteresting! Youβre wrong, for reasons which I reserve the right to return to later, but for now; you say itβs stereotyping rather than racism. I think it can be both. Why canβt it be both?
And atto clearly associates black Africans with 419 scams and thinks itβs amusing to tease Emmanuel with this association. But hereβs the thing; 419s come from Nigerians, not Ugandans. There is no reason to make the connection between Emmanuel and the famous Nigerian scams except on the basis of his assumed race.
I reckon itβs a little bit racist to connect all Black Africans with Nigerian fraudsters like that.
