Emmanuel Katto doesn’t sound like he was born and brought up in Brooklyn. I think it’s reasonable to assume that Emmanuel Katto in Uganda is a black African, and it’s pretty clear that attofishpi has made that assumption.

And atto clearly associates black Africans with 419 scams and thinks it’s amusing to tease Emmanuel with this association. But here’s the thing; 419s come from Nigerians, not Ugandans. There is no reason to make the connection between Emmanuel and the famous Nigerian scams except on the basis of his assumed race.

I reckon it’s a little bit racist to connect all Black Africans with Nigerian fraudsters like that.

If you catch fishy beating people up because of their race, or inciting others to beat them up, then speak out, but calling people racist for making a pretty harmless joke is not something I have any patience with. Actually, I get annoyed at how casually the word, "racist", gets bandied about these days. You only have to have a slight preference for sitting next to somebody similar to yourself on a bus to get put into the same category as Adolf Hitler.

You'd think someone that spends his day coding would have bothered how to work out how to do a normal thumbs up like everyone else. Unfortunately, I am what some refer to as a twat. So I decided to find a website with ASCII thumbs up - old school shit - basically the 256 characters that 8 bits can combine to form the alphabet and other weird characters (if u weren't aware and certainly dont care!) ...however! When you paste these character to make a massive ASCII thumbs up - the forum PHP coding, removes all the 'white spaces' - space is actually an ASCII value too..thus we ol' school geeks demand it [space] be recognised and not discriminated against - by removal.

So.

I had to take a screen dump of what I wanted - of the ASCII thumbs up - in the early nineties there were programs that would convert photos to these black and white forms of the 256 character ASCII table. NE way here is the screen capture:

Different instances of racism cause different levels of harm, certainly. But racism is a tricky business, because individual instances aren't entirely separate in their effect; there is also a aggregate and indeed cumulative effect. If you would give me a precise definition of the word, "racist", I will try to give you an answer to the question. But, regardless of whether the comment did or did not comply to the definition, I consider it far too trivial to be of any concern. I consider freedom of speech far more important than protecting the oversensitive from being offended now and then.
