So you're saying everyone should be issued a gun by the government? I didn't ask to be here so i shouldn't have to pay to leave. Or do you imagine everyone has easy access already?
should someone else pay to have you off'd?
Professional medics deal with end of life issues. That is one of their normal duties. There undoubtedly was a time when you looked after your own end of life problems, and maybe the village priest came to help with a prayer and a bottle of whisky.
In the UK, health care, including end of life care, is free at point of use. There are easier ways of dying than the heroic gunshot to roof of mouth. Anyway, shooting is not offered to civilians in their beds.
It is a relief to one's nearest and dearest and to one's medical carers to be able to offer adequate relief for intolerable pain and loss of dignity.
hospice is great; assisted suicide sucks

When I've had pets euthanised it didn't 'suck' at all. It was very peaceful, so I don't know why all the kerfuffle there is for humans. It's the drugs they use for humans that 'suck'. I'm sure they use crap to put people off doing it.
I'm pretty sure they do mercy killings in hospices too--it's just that they don't have to worry about being prosecuted now.

yeah, you're right...old cat with organ failure, old lady with organ failure, what's the difference? let's be
kind & put 'em down...let's be economical & do it in the same room, with the same needle...one right after the other...jingles & granny can get shoved out of, er, can
peacefully exit life together

In other news, elementary schools, old folks homes, and animal shelters should be the same building.

You are wrong. Old cats are much nicer than old bats.
Suffering is suffering, no matter the species.
(And what you wrote had absolutely nothing to do with what I wrote).
Plus, you clearly don't give a flying rat's arse about anyone but yourself, so why the faux concern for old hags with organ failure?

Penny-pinching whingers who are always whining about their taxes are so unattractive, even when they attempt to disguise it as a desire for FREEEEDOM....

sure it did...you were implyin' an equivalence between puttin' down sick pets & puttin' down humans

of course yer right...my 14 year old nephew lives with me not cuz I love him but cuz he's a good source of organs for me when mine fail (worst case, apocalypse-scenario, he's meat...I can eat on him, a limb at a time, for weeks)...my ma lives with me not cuz I love her but cuz I'm just suckin' up to get my hands on her socked away riches when she croaks...friends of mine, folks I've gone out of my way for, just pawns in my grand, machiavellian schemes...my natural rights libertarianism, just another political crapsack, nuthin' to do with morality at all
yeah, babe...you got me pegged, but good

absolutely right...who the hell am I to expect my government to spend wisely & frugally? who am I to expect accountability from employees?
I'm just the guy who busts hump...absolutely nobody at all

Makes sense. When you're worn out, it's time to go. No need to make a big deal out of it. But it should be made easy and peaceful to do.

Well, what do her caregivers have to say about that? Did she save up to pay for her care... or does she expect everyone to lose their homes and go into debt to keep her plugged in somewhere?

Perhaps if it was for the right reasons, but it's so self-serving and disingenuous. You want your govt. to spend tax money only on things YOU approve of. Well there are more than 300 million other people with different viewpoints to consider. It seems to me that the only things you object to YOUR taxes being spent on are those that might make life a bit more comfortable for others (not to mention your own, when it suits you).
