I've seen it. but what you are talking about is "instant gratification"..............crap like (I told a friend that the moon was far away - farther then he though - 230,000 miles) he did not beleive me so he asked "Siri".

real knowledge is not just "instant facts" to be found and then forgotten via instant flitering gratification.

its in interest in finding and remembering those facts for longterm. and so Siri is not relivant for those that wish to know and retain knowledge.

but you are right, too many are like you state above sadly.

Offhand, I would reference an improvement in critical thinking, intellectual organization, the ability to acquire (and reacquire) knowledge, the appreciation of classic works of literature and art (and, thereby, gaining a sense of commonality with learners of different times and community with cohort learners), an understanding of affective intelligence and physical skills, which derive from cerebral activity, to name some examples that come to mind.

excellent reply and concur, esp WRT to Critical thinking (for there is a lot of crap on the net - one must be able to see it as crap before learning what is not).

personally love history and view a knowledge of history results in wisdom. "those that do not know history repeat it" (or some such) is apt here.

the most foolish folks are also ones that no nothing of history/civics/philosophy - nor do they value such disciplines.

i agree knowledge of history is a requirment fo wisdom.

and a thing which all to many do not know of or value (becuase such knowledge does not give one money).

i.e. modern society and the sheople in said societies (all over the world) - value money over wisdom and so individuals given limited time/comitmits/etc.......chose STEM/similar (other trades that will give them money for their children/family) - instead of taking the time to learn history (wisdom).

I can undstand the many in the above spot of "feeding the familiy" - and there are many on this Earth. I wish them well and understand their situation.

but there are many others that are just plain lazy and with no kid or spouse to support, do their thing without valuing to take the time to learn about history (many here in the U.S).

I value Wisdom and history...................one can be wise (there were wise men/women 10,000 yrs ago ( a time before history..................but i do think in he modern era 9 times out of 10 to be wise is to know history.

and yes - as above the 1/10th - one can be wise - even today - without knowing history.

but knowledge provides the offering of wisdom for the 90-percent here in the modern era, and I value it and continue to learn of it to become more wise each day/year.
