What I mean is: when I look in the mirror, I wish the face looking back at me belonged to someone else.

Actually, that face does belong to someone else, but it's like gravity, you can't see it, even though it's there.

You cannot see or know yourself and you know that, and so you only have the belief that you exist.

So now that you believe you exist.

How are you able to believe?
