That filter is called expediency...or what favors the moment. To be true to yourself you often have to lie to others. In nature it's called Camouflage.

All this stuff you're making up and projecting onto other people, is YOUR STUFF. It's how you see and what you think you know -- it is not reality for everyone else. You cannot know how other people operate. You are mistaken about others a great deal of the time.

You can talk about yourself... but you won't... because you'd rather project it onto other people.

To a degree... as do other people. And then there is YOUR experience... and the way you think and feel, that perhaps you think represents/reflects everyone else more than it does. Simply, your projections do not override what other people know of themselves... regardless of how many years you've been casting those projections.
