Saying 'not ready' implies the inevitability of it by some sort of evolution. I disagree
Yes, it is some sort of evolution. The West evolved into Democracy, and with it.
I agree, the Church was instrumental in getting democracy rolling, but inadvertently. The Catholic Church had its catechism, which helped develop the deliberation that is essential to the democratic process.
Perhaps you misunderstand my 'individualism'. It does exist even in Scandinavia. But they have managed a good balance there between the individual and society. And that is what Democracy is about also, working to achieve a balance. Some have done it better than others. Individualism is an institution that pushes back on the over intrusion of the state, which can get tyrannical, even under democracy.

Hobbes' Choice : Saying 'not ready' implies the inevitability of it by some sort of evolution. I disagree.
I forgot to mention the Magna Carta, this being the 800th anniversary of It. It's held up as the first evolutionary step towards Democracy. The Middle East has not yet had that moment.

Then you have Guantanamo Bay, which is in breach of an 800 year old law Habeas Corpus.

Pray tell, what does one have to do with the other?

You mentioned
Magna Carta, I thought you might know something about it.
