Hey Veggie! Yes some of the human species are messed up, and I'm extremely happy that you've narrowed your sights. Mankind has always had the "Fight or flee" instinct since they were "cavemen". So for some i would guess that it would be pretty easy cutting the soldiers throat if they felt they needed to do it in order to survive, it would be human instinct. I would also think that it would be easy for those who are desensitize by war that the sight of blood and the dead no longer means nothing for them.
