OK, David, you are back in my ignore list (I had thought to give you one more chance and now you blew it).

Your reply was irrational, insulting and quite stupid, I am afraid.

Enjoy your company in my list.

Sure, a good company certainly. Enjoy yours, Herr Professor

I don't see the evolutionary advantage of creating enemies and making a total ass of themselves.

It is a mindless, pathological, knee-jerk reaction, probably they couldn't help it even if they tried.

I am sure a trained psychiatrist could identify this clinical condition, but I have never come across an explanation in all my readings on neurological research.

People feel powerful and untouchable on the internet, and you know what they say about power. It's also an outlet for their inner arsehole, which they probably don't have the luxury of venting in the 'real' world. I'm surprised you blocked David Handeye. I thought he was one of the 'good guys'.

Good guys don't make stupid insults, for the sake of being rude.

Intelligent people use rational arguments, not pointless insults.

I have no time to waste on them.

The only thing blocked here is the OP's intelligence.

I always find this spectacle disturbing because I like to understand things and this is beyond me.

Can anyone explain to me what makes people like this tick?

Why do some people [Ned] use a term like 'some people' in a thread title to attack a few posters as being full of 'mindless hatred'. I think this lacks courage, as does shoving 'some people' into an 'Ignore' cage. There is no need for this highly emotive, condescending and divisive language; using poetry to 'get' at 'some people'. If you have a problem with 'some people' deal with it in a mature manner. The 'foes' and 'friend's feature is quite ridiculous.

There are, of course, reasons why people behave as they do, and you might well wish some answers for that. However, I don't believe, for a minute, that, at 70+ years, you are unaware of the reaction 'some people' have to your ideas/beliefs, especially on the internet. You are simply looking for pals, more friends - against so-called 'foes full of mindless hatred'.

Ned, I remember you from a previous visit - I think you stayed long enough to talk about your books...and your poetry which you are regurgitating on the poetry thread. Fair enough.

Isn't it funny?

I have my very own mute chorus, following me wherever I go.

Straight out of a Greek comedy!

Thin plot, no chorus, not mute, not following you wherever you go. Hilarious.

It doesn't follow that it'll make enemies of those that are put down nor does it follow that's the intent. I believe it's mostly done to make the one with the uncivil tongue feel good. Can you cite any studies showing otherwise?

No, that's why I started this thread.

I was hoping someone was aware of such studies.

What you have here is s self referring example.
Who on earth are you talking about. It seems to me that you are just ranting against anyone and everyone that disagrees with you.
You'll have to be more specific.

Do you mean THIS?
There now follows the reaction of people to an unlawful assassination without trial.
