My friend, you know absolutely nothing about economics, so please do yourself a favor and stay as far away from the subject as possible.raw_thought wrote:Actually, statistics prove that upping the minimum wage increases employment.

Re: Bernie Sanders For President
Do I have to give you an economics lesson? It is well know that the higher the price of something, the less will be bought. This holds true whether it be material goods or labor.raw_thought wrote:Great another one that has no facts or arguments only insults.
Re: Bernie Sanders For President
Works for us. Australia has the highest minimum wage in the world. Unemployment rate is favourable with countries such as the USA.raw_thought wrote:Actually, statistics prove that uping the minimum wage increases employment. More people with money (that they earned as opposed to those, stock market etc, that bet on workers productivity ) means more sales and therefore more jobs to produce those goods.
Workers create value.
The bankers and stock market create nothing of value.
As the old proverb says, if it wasnt for the poor the rich would have to eat their money.

Obviously, neither of you knows anything about economics. 1+1=2 whether you live in Australia or the United States. Besides causing unemployment, minimum wage represents a misallocation of resources.
Re: Bernie Sanders For President
It might be a misallocation of resources but high minimum wages have not caused high unemployment in this country. Maybe your country is different.bobevenson wrote:Obviously, neither of you know anything about economics. 1+1=2 whether you live in Australia or the United States. I guess that you're saying is that Australians are dumber than other people, that when the cost of labor goes up, employers can't figure out that they can discriminate against the least skilled, or figure out how to get more work out of the people they already have, or figure out that buying another machine will cut their labor costs.Ginkgo wrote:It might be a misallocation of resources but high minimum wages have not caused high unemployment in this country. No. I'm not actually saying that.bobevenson wrote:I guess that you're saying is that Australians are dumber than other people, that when the cost of labor goes up, employers can't figure out that they can discriminate against the least skilled, or figure out how to get more work out of the people they already have, or figure out that buying another machine will cut their labor costs.Ginkgo wrote:It might be a misallocation of resources but high minimum wages have not caused high unemployment in this country. A misallocation? Those that create material wealth should not be compensated as much as those that do not (banks, wall street simply bet on the productivity of others)????
I believe in the work ethic. You obviously believe in the gambling ethic.

Just go to any Economics 1A textbook, and you will find out that minimum wage throws people out of work, no ifs, ands or buts! Please don't give your opinion on something you have absolute no knowledge of. P.S. Let me know any economist who disagrees with what I said, and I'll show you an economist who should tear up his degree and find another line of work.raw_thought wrote:We have all the facts. Unfortunately, you don't understand what "misallocation of resources" means. It means that when employers feel that labor is too expensive, they will seek to minimize costs by replacing labor with capital goods.raw_thought wrote:A misallocation? Hmmm..So they will replace labour with capital goods (tractors, trains, semi trucks etc). Hmmm so how do they increase capital goods without increasing labor? Who makes the trucks etc?

It is common knowledge that raising the minimum wage increases employment. More money means more people spending money. More money being spent means more goods must be manufactured.bobevenson wrote:Just go to any Economics 1A textbook, and you will find out that minimum wage throws people out of work, no ifs, ands or buts! My friend, you don't know shit about economics, but the sad thing is that you think you do. I don't believe you're in the position to teach anybody about anything, much less economics.raw_thought wrote: It is common knowledge that raising the minimum wage increases employment.
