So exactly following in the footsteps of their 'prophet' then.
If I was you I'd be writing to my president to ask him why American government policy is and has been to support the House of Saud who have been actively promoting Wahabbism or Salafism(as they prefer) worldwide for the past four decades. A doctrine of which IS and Al Qaeda are the logical extension. Oh don't bother, the answer is Oil, Iran, Israel and end-of-times religionists.
I'd ask him why after spending millions of tax-dollars upon the Iraqi army and reassuring everyone that they were in good shape they upped and ran at the first sign of trouble and question him if this will also be the case with the Afghan army once the Taliban reassert themselves.
You want to worry, worry about the Taliban joining with IS.
Worry that a nuclear armed state, Pakistan, is getting hundred of thousands of its poor children educated in Saudi funded madrasahs and basically turning-out 'holy-warriors' for 'God'. And this is happening all over the Islamic world.

Are they. So you retract your nonsense about the hijacking of Islam by IS? Your claim that Islam is a very peaceful religion?

Yes. I hold, even tighter, my original statements upon this thread...and EVERYTHING else that I stated thereafter.
Thank you for allowing me to openly clarify my deep-seated feelings upon this subject.
For the most part, most religious individuals are in need of something. Tangible or not. When driven, will be violent.

Have you ever read the Quran?
Have you any idea of the history of Islam and how their prophet achieved its success?
Once again you prove your gnu status.

Islam will claim that their Profit was attacked by his enemies, I guess that is as good an excuse as any, and I've heard it before several times.

I appreciate ALL the responses that I have received to this thread and I enjoy all the spirit but I need to reign-in the focus we have here by repeating something I stated earlier here:
Would it suffice to say that in EVERY religious quarter there are radicals?
I hope that this thread will help clarify the fact that ISIL is doing a huge discredit to the very proud and very peaceful Islamic religion.

the Quran has a few verses that, under special circumstances, justify violence against those who oppose you. These verses have been perverted to justify violence against all non-Muslims.

Does the Bible have a few verses that, under special circumstances, justify violence against those who oppose you? Because I'm pretty-sure a few verses have been perverted to justify violence against all non-Christians.
Likewise ALL OTHER RELIGIOUS TEXTS can be perverted by unstable individuals who may have violence in their hearts.

Muhammed's followers in his "peaceful" period of 13 years of preaching = 130, total.
Muhammed's followers in his post-exile period, after he began to preach violence and actively convert people by the sword at Yathrib = over 10,000 are claimed to have gathered to prepare the attack on Mecca.
Which is the true Islam? It was largely unsuccessful and tiny at the only time in history it was peaceful. Afterward...

Islam, THE religion of peace.
From Wikipedia:
The Arabic word salaam (سلام) ("secured, pacified, submitted") has the same root as the word Islam.[1] One Islamic interpretation is that individual personal peace is attained by utterly submitting to Allah. The greeting "As-Salaamu alaykum", favoured by Muslims, has the literal meaning "Peace be upon you"
......................................................
Thank you for allowing me to bring an important and bright light to this aspect of one of the largest and one of the largely misunderstood religions of the world.
Greetings & REAL PEACE to all...

To ALL being the operative word as in the end they will brook no others.
You actually read the Quran? Or is wiki still your bible.

Not necessarily true. To their credit, extremists offer coherent justifications for their positions on these sots of verses and shift the "perversion" to those who do not take these verses "seriously" (much like Christian fundamentalists do with this or that social issue). The "polytheist" classification is a point of some contention. As with most scripture, arriving at a 'correct' interpretation against which we can then measure 'corruptions' is not as easy as some think, especially when we're communicating across vastly differing world views. Of course, there are the interpretations we
like (because they don't require our deaths), but we should be cautious before declaring the others to be perversions (insofar as extremists can justify those positions by appeals to tradition and scripture).

It is also worth noting the, shall we say, "peer pressure" that comes from living in a city where you are hopelessly outnumbered should you speak out against the rulers. I'd preach a message of peace too.

The Arabic word salaam (سلام) ("secured, pacified, submitted")
It's amazing how a guy can miss the obvious point.
Peace? Yes, but only by pacification. Secured? By conquest. Submitted? Forcibly.
Of course there's peace once all opposition has been crushed, all freedom destroyed and all dissent devastated. Then, yes, you have "peace" of a sort.
Not a price we ought to be willing to pay.
