Philosophy, like any subject across the board, is certainly not for everybody, Hex, and apparently not your cup of tea. Don't be troubled by that but since the time you've spent on this board, surely you have gained something thru the various 'offerings' that are in play here on a 24/7/365 schedule..?

So where does this hostility come from..? Should we put it to philosophy to uncover it's source? ;)
First off, it's not hostility, it's trying to make you wake up to reality.

Strange, why isn't metaphysics used outside these cozy chat rooms which so many calls philosophy forums, you know philosophy is "love of wisdom" what wisdom are there in metaphysics? Scientists have asked themselves that question and left it to die, but apparently you and ONLY you sees some usefulness in it, maybe it's really a delusion?

It is my cup of tea, just that I'm being critically about it and only flesh out the useful parts.

To say that someone needs to wake up to reality means that you 'know' that they are not. In this case how could you possibly 'know' what philosophy means to them? To me it would seem that you are merely projecting your belief upon another, then holding them accountable for it. A need to prove something to yourself?

Strange, why isn't metaphysics used outside these cozy chat rooms
Why should it have to be? Why isn't the engineering of building bridges used in choosing the colors in a painting of a flower?

which so many calls philosophy forums,
They are in fact called what they are, much like a bridge.

you know philosophy is "love of wisdom" what wisdom are there in metaphysics?
Whatever any particular philosopher supplies.

Scientists have asked themselves that question and left it to die,
Who does that speak more of, the scientists or the philosophers of metaphysics?

but apparently you and ONLY you sees some usefulness in it,
A falsehood, as if you have done a survey to prove such belief.

maybe it's really a delusion?
Obviously your delusion, as in truth, anything's value can only be determined by they that value it.

It is my cup of tea, just that I'm being critically about it and only flesh out the useful parts.
Finally a bit of truth! Yes, it is 'only' to 'you,' what 'you' 'decide' it is to 'you, and only you, unless of course you can find another that believes "exactly," as 'you' believe.

Sphere's, I couldn't have answered that any better than you did! Thanks for saving me more (wasted) time with HexHammer. I do appreciate it.

No problem, but to be honest, I did it for 'all' those that come here because they love philosophy, you being one of those people.

Believe me, Mr. Hammer and I have had a few go rounds. I have no problems with him, and believe he should be included, but he should, IMHO, mix things up because he's starting to sound like a broken record, which can be annoying. If he wants to be considered relevant by those that love philosophy, the purpose of the forum, he should provide arguments against the topics at hand.

Anyway, I just thought I'd say that I have enjoyed your and many others, (lancek, Arising_uk, uwot, micthinks, John, attofishpi, ginkgo, even chaz wyman; to name but a few), words. Of course I always prefer peace over bickering, rudeness or down right nastiness. Of course I'm not perfect and have made such mistakes, but I learn and grow, as I'm not really a bad guy at all, just trying to make sense of everything, which is why I've chosen philosophy and psychology.

I'm happy to say that at 57 I can still learn and change, hopefully up until my last breath. ;)

Later! :)

I've noticed how well you are able to "handle the truth."
Have you given any thought to writing a book on the subject, Rex?

I believe you think I'm another person, which I am not, however I intend to kill off philosophy as I want to make a Danish school reform that shows how outdated and utterly useless this cozy chat is!
Cozy chat must be refined and get new kind of relevance in a new form.

That you want to take your HexHammer and kill is no surprise to me, and you spoke of bridges... FYI, HH, bridges are for closing gaps, not creating them!

I tend to agree with you Hex and let's not forget that Philosophy itself has pretty much abandoned it as a source of truth about the world, although it'll never go away as a ground for one's beliefs I think.
Scientists have asked themselves that question and left it to die, but apparently you and ONLY you sees some usefulness in it, maybe it's really a delusion?
...
Well, scientists do hold to a rough metaphysics, i.e. that there is an external world that obeys law like laws that is amenable to reason.

The best of luck to you, Hex. Unfortunately, this preposterous idea of yours "to kill off philosophy' is akin to killing off thought itself. Have you even thought of that?

Denmark wouldn't stand for non-thinking, I'm sure. But you may consider taking your idea to North Korea..? You might be appreciated by Kim Jong Un.

Since all science is in fact the child of it's father, philosophy, it's children can never, not contain the essence of it's father, as such, philosophy shall always be around, unless science is totally scrapped for something new.

We live in modern times where science has taken over with thesis and theories, they demand evidence where philosophy only demands a cozy chat.
