I think in the first Iraq war in 1991 it was estimated that roughly 80% of all allied casualties was due to friendly fire, 1 even died in a car accident in a US military camp. Then there was a horrific accident by a military Apatche pilot unaware of drifting in the wind, he would spot this tank and shoot it, unfortunaly it was a US tank.

If you go into the military, you will find untold horrors if you are send on active duty, many veterans returns as mental train wrecks suffering heavily from PTSD.

There's a famous experiment explaining why normal law abiding citizen once in war, they would commit unspeakable warattrocities, and you will most likely also fall victim to this psychological phenomenon.

Danish newspaper somewhere in late 90'ies, goverment TV, Discovery Channel, etc mid to late 90'ies, it should be very common knowledge!

If you count accidents as friendly fire then 60% were killed by friendly fire.
If you count accidents as a standard aspect of warfare then only 9% were killed by friendly fire.

To Ned, your original question is inherently flawed. I (friendly) dare you to answer a simple question. Can you name a single profession that is free from ethical challenges? I'll make it easy and let you define what you mean by "ethics" and "challenge."
