You reworded my sentence to fit your needs Bob. I said "people who easily fall prey to alcohol", those potential or already existing alcoholics.

Open-container laws don't stop potential or already existing alcoholics from constantly talking from a drunk state of mind. They do stop normal citizens from enjoying themselves.

Wrong, it does stop them, because it discourages them. But I'd also like to include other people talking from drunk states of mind, and who because of it will do bad things. It's unrealistic to think that people normally have so much control over themselves that they will not abuse alcohol when it's freely available anywhere, and not just abuse against themselves, but also by destroying their senses before interacting with others and therefore do bad things against others.
It's natural for people to fill their misery with more misery, and the easier available you give them that misery, the easier they will go down that path, and ruin for everybody else around them in the doing.

Unfortunately, you want to penalize society at large for problems that relatively few people have. Anyway, what do you want, a nanny government that takes you by the hand and guides you through life? I wouldn't ask a government worker for the time of day for fear of getting the wrong answer!

Look, you can have a maximum speed limit of 10 MPH and have no injuries or fatalities. You can increase that speed limit to 55 MPH, and probably create some new problems. The alternative is going through life at 10 MPH. I think most people would choose the 55 MPH limit.

Yes, and that's called politics. Sorting out what kind of policies we should have and at what degree to figure out what values of society needs ensuring the most. At one point the speed limit slows everything so much down that the gain is not considered worth the loss.

If you truly believe that the government should have the authority to tell you what size soft drink you can buy, regardless of their reasoning, I simply don't know what to say. At least a Supreme Court judge in the State of New York kicked the billionaire mayor of New York City square in the balls on this subject, and that billionaire mayor now intends to spend taxpayer money to fight the ruling. You know what I think, take New York City and Los Angeles, and cut them both loose to sink to the bottom of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans respectively, like Atlantis!
