I think the answer to the question speaks to the realities of a harsher and far more brutal world than most folks realize can exist, and when the harsh realities of that kind of world come to light by example, folks are repelled because of modern day moral implications ... especially free folks.

As a relevant historical example, absolute allegiance to a lord and master was probably critical to survival, and a lord’s command, taken to its extrapolated extreme, naturally becomes The Lord demanding the greatest sacrifice at the time to prove allegiance and faith, and that sacrifice apparently was a man’s bloodline.

Of course, this is just conjecture based on reasoning and no historical evidence other than prehistoric bones of people that indicate most folks of the (prehistoric) times in the caves died by violence, many from cutting weapons, and in terms of brutality, biblical times are much closer in time to the caves.

No doubt there are deeper meanings to the command, and perhaps more accurate than layman conjecture.
