Being aware of ones limitations is actually a very good thing to know

Bollocks.
How about pie in the sky colonisation?surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 5:58 pmWhat about the meteorite hits moon problem ?Skepdick wrote:
Life on the moon ?
Life in space ?
Life on Mars ?
That sure solves the Meteorite hits Earth problem
What about the meteorite hits space station problem ?
What about the meteorite hits Mars problem ?
Hurry up and get some problem solvers solving these problems before we establish any colonies on them
*sigh*surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 5:58 pm What about the meteorite hits moon problem ?

So you have the same strategy as The Dinosaurs.
All we do at this point is to have a stockpile of something like 3 million mines. We don't use them (other than the Korean peninsula) and we don't export them. I assume the reason for keeping them is in case conventional war were to break out with another major power. They have them so we do too.Sculptor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 5:41 pmGlad to see the USA dropping to the bottom of the pile of shit.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 1:58 pmOther non-signatories of the ban on landmines (including most of the world's major military powers): Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, China, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, India, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, North Korea, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Lao PDR, Lebanon, Libya, Micronesia, Mongolia, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Syria, Tonga, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.Sculptor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 11:41 am Do no harm???

Good old Trump making the US no better than the worst countries of the world.
We could live on the moon or on Mars but most us from now on will probably only ever live hereSculptor wrote:
we are adapted to live here and here is where we are going to stay
Birds are the descendants of dinosaurs so they were successful in passing on their genesSkepdick wrote:

How did that work out for them
Cool. Call it a success.surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:21 pm Birds are the descendants of dinosaurs so they were successful in passing on their genes
That asteroid wiped out 95 per cent of life on Earth but that means 5 per cent survived
If you aren't talking about "bean counting" you have no idea what "stability" and "better" or "worse" means!Sculptor wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:01 pmBollocks.
We are talking about societies, not bean counting.

How long before we actually have four colonies as this is just a fantasy at the moment and nothing elseSkepdick wrote:
An extinction event would require a meteorite hit ALL FOUR of our colonies at the SAME TIME
You really keep shooting yourself in the foot with your cynical/nay-saying language.surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:26 pm How long before we actually have four colonies as this is just a fantasy at the moment and nothing else
If that's a better gambit towards making us inter-stellar species - sure!surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:26 pm So we should spend time and energy on getting the problem solvers to solve the problems here on Earth
No idea but I predict the Second Law Of Thermodynamics is going to destroy absolutely everything within existenceSkepdick wrote:
Would you gamble on a repeat performance ?
Yes it will (given our current understanding, which may be wrong). So what?surreptitious57 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 09, 2020 6:37 pm No idea but I predict the Second Law Of Thermodynamics is going to destroy absolutely everything within existence
Even black holes will have evaporated by the time it has succeeded in turning the Universe into an absolute vacuum
Absolutely not because I am simply accepting that there are limitations to what can be doneSkepdick wrote:
