US passport $165
You are trolling.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:52 pmWell, you said it mandates voter ID.phyllo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:26 pmIC doesn't even know what changes the Save act requires.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:15 pm
Umm...exactly what is the "cost" of getting an ID that absolutely everybody can easily get-- and most people already have? For example, what American citizen doesn't have a driver's license, or a SIN card, or a birth certificate? And what is the "cost" of signing for your vote?

I just can't see what you're talking about, at all. But you must have something in mind, because you called it a "cost." What is this "cost"?
And I pointed out that that would be fine. And you agreed, since, you said, there isn't anybody who can't do it.
So what's the problem?
This isn't rocket science: if voter ID should hurt somebody, you should be able to say who that person is.
You won't find that you can quote anything like that. And if it wasn't an attempt to paraphrase, then that would leave only two options: either you simply misunderstood, completely...or pretended to, for whatever reason you might have for conscious misrepresentation.phyllo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:28 pmThat wasn't a paraphrase of what you wrote.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:03 pmYour paraphrase is once again incorrect. Look back, and you'll find that at no point have I done this.
You're not the problem: the problem is the people who float these kinds of think conspiracy-theories. But they know what they're doing. They just think people are not smart enough to catch them. Now you and I have, and that shows us smarter than then hoped.
You were, perhaps, believing people who should not be believed. But you were not imagining them lying. They were. Thanks for confirming that I am imagining things.
Primary Acceptable IDs for SAVE Verification
That's why a number of organizations are bringing attention to the problems of the SAVE act ... because there are no problems with it .The one thing nobody believes is that voter ID is any kind of problem to an honest, citizen voter of any kind.
I'm not a US citizen.MikeNovack wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:42 pmIC, do REALLY live in some state where a driver's license is issued to you for no fee?Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 5:15 pmUmm...exactly what is the "cost" of getting an ID that absolutely everybody can easily get-- and most people already have? Funnier still, the Dems think we'll be too stupid to see through the tactic. They're recent hysterics are really pretty transparent.
Gotta be trolling because there is no other reasonable explanation for this.Did you not know this? Or were you just deliberately trying to deceive people into believing that a $165 passport was the only acceptable ID?
Well, the SAVE info is right in front of your face. That's hardly "trolling." And weren't you the one complaining I wasn't referring to the SAVE Act? It seems to me I remember it was...
For voting in the US???Foreign Passport (unexpired).
Non-citizens, including permanent legal residents, cannot vote in federal, state, and most local elections.Permanent Resident Card (Form I-551, often called a Green Card).
Apparently. So it would seem they're not even blocking foreign citizens who are legal. But I agree with you that that seems too much latitude. Maybe you want to talk to your government about tightening that up. Or maybe there's an explanation you and I are not thinking of.
Since you didn't actually provide a link to where you got that, it's difficult to verify if what you posted is correct.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Tue Mar 10, 2026 6:12 pmApparently. Either way, it's an extremely generous provision for the having of ID. Nobody's going to be hurt by all this, and no reasonable constiutency is even at threat. So what's the problem?
