People who question the words of a prophet amuse me in a pathetic sort of way.

I said poppies, not heroin. Afganistan is the number one supplier of opium. Right, attack a whole country to get one person. Just like it attacked Iraq to get one person, then kept attacking it for a decade after it got him. Yep. That makes a whole lot of sense. Face it. There's money in war and we all know that money is all the yanks care about. Money and self-agrandisement.

The draft (as well as other forms of legally enforced government service, such as jury duty) is not "slavery" per say, because you're being paid for your labor. It is, however, forced servitude, which violates both the letter and the spirit of the 13th Amendment.
The only problem with THAT argument though is that the Supreme court has ruled on several occasions that this form of forced servitude does not violate the 13th Amendment, because military service is a duty that we all "owe" the state... So much for "The Home of the Free", I guess.

No, I'm sorry, but simply being paid for involuntary servitude does not nullify it as slavery. I hope you're not suggesting that 10 cents an hour gets the government off the hook. And the proposition that anybody owes the country for being the so-called land of the free is utter nonsense. The bottom line is that people don't want to pay the free-market price for military personnel, and would rather spend their money at the beach.tectuctitlay wrote:The draft (as well as other forms of legally enforced government service, such as jury duty) is not "slavery" per say, because you're being paid for your labor. $8-$11 for the standard grunt grade, plus medical treatment I assume and full board and lodging.bobevenson wrote:No, I'm sorry, but simply being paid for involuntary servitude does not nullify it as slavery. I hope you're not suggesting that 10 cents an hour gets the government off the hook. ...

Yes you are right. You should come and live in England - a free country.bobevenson wrote:Congress is now considering forcing women to register for selective service (the military draft system) under penalty of law instead of eliminating selective service all together. This is one of the most oppressive, despotic and tyrannical laws ever devised by the U.S. government.

I guarantee you that I don't get my money by stealing it like socialist governments do.

If this is not true of him, then he'll answer.
