"Lacking"
Nicely written but this is what you and John Gray think, not Bill. You are just using him as a sock-puppet.
Lakin wrote:Well Rick ,I think what Bill Wiltrack is saying is that Philosophy is dead in the same way as
God is Dead. The faith in God has gone as the faith in establishment Philosophy is gone, or as he says , is "flawed". Possibly because it is the old juggling act of Judeo Christian prejudice .
And yet according to the Oxford, no Cambridge, sorry Oxford 'grad', large parts of western philosophy are an amalgamation with eastern philosophy?
Someone who has lived a full life (Bill) is reading a philosophy which does not reflect the world as he knows it ,but is rather just a populist and political philosophy that fits into the square and round holes that society has foisted on us and basically he does not buy it.
He certainly doesn't read it as he doesn't buy it. What he did buy into was his mentors cobbled together 'eastern philosophy', Ouspensky and a mystical experience in his youth.
As far as I understand it , the core philosophy that Bill understands is that
the organised world is highly politicized and that propaganda has supplanted truth.
When didn't it?
Corruption is endemic in all our institutions .
When wasn't it? Although we did improve for a while but looks like things are returning to normal.
Bill probably sees the world as did George Orwell .
You saying he's a disillusioned socialist? As an aside, my nan said Eric was a great disappointment to his parents.
What Bill is saying is that he does not need a student in a magazine, who is pontificating from ancient philosophers ,to tell him what life is all about in the real world.
What happened to the eternal verity you were referring to above?
His philosophy is here on the forum , reflected in his encounters with his arch rival The Chicken.
Jealousy, power plays, one-upmanship , the crass stupidity of those wishing to
make their views concrete by virtue of shoddy evidence and then, supported by partisan and twisted cliques .etc.
Such is life where truth is left in tatters.

What jealousy? Which cliques? I'll give you that shoddy evidence abounds here and there are many seeking power although what 'power' one can have in this format is beyond me.
It could just be that Bill's a budding gnu seeking followers as Bill thinks he has the truth of things. Which could be backed-up by the shonky evidence of his past history on Interweeb forums.
I take it that you are about to join in as so far and in the past your posts to me fit all your criteria.
So you say random articles from the forum would crash the magazine.
Well what Bill is saying is that the forum is the actuality of interpersonal life
and reflects life more acutely that scholarly articles which attempt to remodel
social phenomena.
No, he's saying no-one would buy it as those who do buy it have a life and are reading not from despair but interest.
To Bill, life is crudely exposed by experience and he does not need refined philosophical drama to teach him about life.
And yet his posts are one long wail of confusion about his life? Maybe a touch of Boethius or even Camus might help him.
