This Forum For Sale

Well folks, after many years we think that sadly we have reached the end of the road with the Forum. As most of you know, we had to separate it from the magazine in order to prevent the magazine's website from being slowed down by bots. The Forum then sprang back to life after a shutdown of a couple of months - in other words, you all came back (thanks!).

Unfortunately we cannot justify paying hosting fees and Cloudflare fees if the Forum is not part of the magazine, and the ads at the top of the page make little money because the traffic here is relatively low. We believe that this place has the potential to be developed into a bigger, better philosophy forum, with enough traffic to ensure sufficient advertising revenue to more than cover its costs - to be profitable, even. However, we are too busy with the magazine to put in the necessary development and marketing work. That's why we think we must now sell it to somebody with the knowledge, time and enthusiasm to make a proper go of it. We've therefore listed it for sale. You are a good crowd and I will miss this place. Assuming it continues under new management, I'll definitely still drop in here sometimes!

Thank you for all your efforts, Rick. It has been a pleasure and a pricelessly valuable learning experience for me to enquire and share views with others here. I count myself far better than I would be right now had I not had the opportunity to meet brilliant minds from afar. I would be clinging to unclarified delusions and sitting on a mental latticework of fragile stilts were it not for Philosophy Now's Forum. Philosophy Now has truly fulfilled the mission of bringing philosophy to the people, and even the worst of us (such as I) are better for it.

PS. And yes. I am using the word "enquire" instead of "inquire". The British usage of two words, one for casual enquiry and the other for official inquiry, makes a lot of sense to me.

Thank you, Rick (and others) for all the work you've done to keep this forum going! And for putting up with all the foolishness and bad behavior that created some of the highlights! It has truly been a valuable resource for me to share and challenge ideas in a way that I could/would not do anywhere else. So much laughter! You have generously given a lot to those of us here.

It's disconcerting to think that I won't be able to come here and rumble with the same people as I've been doing for so MANY years. We're like a family that gets together to argue and throw food at Thanksgiving, but we do it on a regular basis.

I have my doubts that this dynamic chaotic quality would be preserved under new ownership. I've been on other Philosophy websites over the years that were dry and disciplined and not very active. You have allowed a real gem to emerge here from the cosmic goo.
