Self-Flagellation
I seem to engage in it quite a bit. My thinking seems to be that if I beat myself up enough over something I did wrong or badly, then I will atone for it. The only problem is, I've been beating myself up for years over things that probably aren't tremendous crimes but I don't seem to ever feel like I've atoned for them. So now I sort of wonder if self-flagellation is a herd defense mechanism whereby members that fall out of line destroy themselves for the benefit of the hive mind or something.

Join me in being a Disciple of Truth, then you'll always have epistemological warrant that you've done your best or know how to change to do better, no flagellation required. Bayesian reasoning is sufficient to have an Accurate ego. By what standard do you atone, and to who, and how? and why? You've set yourself up for an infinite project that goes nowhere.

Re: Self-Flagellation
What thoughts prompt it, Gary? Guilt? Regret? Self-focusing? Depression? Anxiety? Fear? There are a lot of reasons one can be drawn to that sort of thing, but it might help if you identify what triggers the inclination. It might tell you what you're struggling with.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 2:47 am I seem to engage in it quite a bit. Start with the emotion that immediately precedes those feelings, or the subject matter about which you're preoccupied when those feelings appear.

Since moving into a first-class retirement apartment, I have begun colleecting & using the impements for effectipb]ve self-flagellation[/b]: tawsses, canes, whips, slappers, etc. My psychology behind my hobby is the positive desire to get high on beta-endorphin, the body's own opioid. I enjoy hurting myself with multiple toys because of the great feeling I experience after I'm finished hurting my self.
As part of my interest in self-flagellattion (SF( is studying the materials involved in each of my toys in order to determine which are the most effective pain sourcess.Rubber seems to be the most efficient way to whip your butt & upper thighs while standing. Impact pllay is also fun & for this I've collected 15 buzkashi Afghan horse whipps, most vintage, from a mid-Eastern dealer I've dealt with before.
One interesting note about religious zealots who practive SF but confuse the rapture they feel from the endorphin high with holy mortification of the flesh while they emulate the way the Romans abused Jesus before his crucifixion.
While on this topic, I'm also into cross-dressing. Sleeping in my BR has been a challenge with my legs getting cold so I now wear a garter belt & nylons under my sweats. I also collect & enjoy bras & panties.

I hope that's tongue-in-cheek. Probably not though. The details and obvious pleasure in 'sharing' lean towards it being genuine. Men are disgusting weirdos so nothing surprises me any more. Next he'll be demanding we call him Jacquie and use female pronounsJacksinPA wrote: ↑Wed Nov 26, 2025 9:19 pm Since moving into a first-class retirement apartment, I have begun colleecting & using the impements for effectipb]ve self-flagellation[/b]: tawsses, canes, whips, slappers, etc. My psychology behind my hobby is the positive desire to get high on beta-endorphin, the body's own opioid. Not surprised that the random observer would choose to criticize masochism, opioid addiction, bisexuality/self-flagellation $ crossdressing, none of which are new. Or the established fact that the ultra-religious practice the masochism/self-flagellation/pioid addiction as a major part of their religious beliefs. Welcome to reality.

I'm well aware that creepy male weirdos have existed for a long time, along with sex-obsessed, perverted male religious nuts.JacksinPA wrote: ↑Thu Nov 27, 2025 1:35 am Not surprised that the random observer would choose to criticize masochism, opioid addiction, bisexuality/self-flagellation $ crossdressing, none of which are new. By the way, very few, if any, women wear stockings and suspenders any more. Technology has moved on.
