I wrote 'god' without a capital letter because of the message of Xenophanes as quoted earlier. IC is indoctrinated by aspects of his culture more so than Seeds , me, or yourself. Cultures can make people stupid although as seeds wroteMan, life sure would suck under those conditions, no? Especially for the billions of humans on earth who, due to the circumstances of where they were born on this planet, were indoctrinated into something other than Christianity.
Now I am not suggesting that a person who can be so wildly irrational in one area cannot be rational in other areas, however, it sure does call into question one's "core source" of rationality.

The circumstances of IC determine who he is at any point in time. Dasein. -----We would all of us enjoy a rock of ages to be real and presumably someone got at IC before he was aged 7 years and persuaded him that Biblical literalism is a uniquely sure way to the rock of ages. As Seeds wroteNow I am not suggesting that a person who can be so wildly irrational in one area cannot be rational in other areas, however, it sure does call into question one's "core source" of rationality.
Seeds also wrote:Man, life sure would suck under those conditions, no? Especially for the billions of humans on earth who, due to the circumstances of where they were born on this planet, were indoctrinated into something other than Christianity.
and I agree even to the extent that bad is the absence of good: "core source" in my book is the good which some cultures cause to disappear leaving a weakened species of man . IC would say that the goodis to be known from literal reading of The Bible. Such a monumental lack of humility I guess was instilled in IC by significant others who didn't teach him how to know himself. Now I am not suggesting that a person who can be so wildly irrational in one area cannot be rational in other areas, however, it sure does call into question one's "core source" of rationality.

You say that RC as established by Constantine allowed plenty of wiggle room. I am inclined to agree, as every Roman Catholic I have met (about ten or so individuals at a rough count) has been especially nice friend or acquaintance whose religiosity was not didactic at all, and compos mentis too.
I enjoyed your explanation of the word 'catholic'. I knew of the meaning of the word but I hadn't before thought of it as good for social -psychological health.
